well la-de-da! "we're movin on up, to the east side"

hey monty, it seems that the 16-d motors (even the ones that you make) prefer magnets that are LESS rather than MORE powerful, relative to say, a group 12 . why is that? or ... is this an illusion?

thanks, xxoo richard MUDHEN marnhout:eek:

Rich,
If you're going to use 'traditional' gear ratios (somewhere between 3.3 and 4 to 1), then you are correct - magnets in the lower half of the range available will allow the big, heavy, overwired 16d arms to rev up. That, and a LOT of timing...

I do know some successful racers that use the strongest magnets they can find, and then gear down around 3 to 1. This also seems to be the theory around the new RJR arms with the large O.D., where the reccommended ratio is more like 2.5 to 1! I still prefer high revs however, as the car HANDLES better, for several reasons, like a wider power band and better gyroscopic action.

thanks monty.

along similar lines then, how about air gap? i have an old beat to hell parma death star that i use in the weekly cheap motor races.
i put in a set of those new FAST ONES thick (dcm? not sure) mags and it went from being a real pig dog to a pig! the air gap reminds me more of a gr.12 than a 16-d. any comments?
