I just purchased a pair of Kelly's 16D magnets. They have the same paint on them that the Parma's have. Are they the same mags that have been matched, or are they the same ceramic material used in Kelly's C can magnets. What air gap should be used with Parma's or Fast One's super 16D arm?

Gary,

I haven't actually seen a Kelly D can yet, but have been told that the magnets are somewhat different from the Parma EPX. For the price (which is limited), I can't see how Terry could possibly match the magnets in the bagstock version. No doubt there will be blueprinted versions available from various builders soon enough.

As for air gap, I reccommend dead stock - but only because I know of no easy way to make the gap larger.

Monty, I've built-up three of the new Kelly D-cans this week and the cans I have (likely to be first-run production) are coming up a bit large on width. Air gaps in the .585-.590 range would have been no problem to do.

The new magnets in these motors are stronger than Parma EPX 16D magnets, though I will admit not to have gaussed the magnets from the three setups I built. Like the Kelly C-can magnets, the magnets' inner radius is larger than the air gap diameter, making them a bit of a pain to align accurately.

FWIW, finished motor weight is just under 3 grams less than a Parma 16D.
