View Full Version : Springs?
Monty,
With the new Pro Gp12 rules, they submitted 5 coil springs to be allowed......what are the advantages to these springs, and if you were going to use 5 coil springs on your "pro" motors, which ones would you choose and why?
Thanks

Hi, the 5 coil spring possibility a bigger tension than the 3 coil spring, and the 5 coil spring conserve the tension for much time more...
Sorry but I donīt speak english very well...

Brad,
The only 5 coil springs I know of are Camen. Here in So-Cal we used a lot of the Camen lights for Boxstock back before anyone bothered to tech for national compliance (1993 was the first SoCal Nats with a Boxstock class), and we continued to alow them for a few years past that.
5 coil springs don't change diameter as much as they uncoil, and the coil stands 60% taller. This means they tend to sit straighter on the endbell. As I recall, they were also more reliable, but the three coil springs are much better now than they used to be.
Of all the changes made to gr.12 motor rules, this has to be the one of least concern...
