I just got a Kelly Black Max 16d and have two questions.
1. It does seem to sound strong but turns in the wrong direction when I wire it the normat way. Should I just wire it the opposite or should I remove the bellend and turn it 180degrees since that usually reverses the motor?
2. The screws holding on the bellend seem to be for some different type of driver that the usual alien or phillips. Any idea as to what they are?

thanks

I have another question about these setups, mine came unassembled so how do I know which magnet is front and rear and which way they go in?

Guys,

These setups are new to me (although I now have one on hand), but I think I can answer the questions.

The Kelly magnets are marked like most slotcar magnets, with the white paint on the negative magnet. This magnet will then mark the negative side of the motor for leadwire hookup purposes if a ProSlot, Mura, Koford, or Chinese armature is used. RJR arms normally run opposite polarity. There isn't any hard and fast rule on the subject, but the majority of racers run the negative magnet in the rear of the motor, the side adjacent to the axle. Its more practical to switch leadwire than turn the endbell over, although either procedure will work to reverse motor polarity. Re-zapping the magnets to reverse them will also work.

The new screws, being used by both Kelly and ProSlot (ok, me too since I buy parts from Kelly and ProSlot...), are Torx 05 size screws. The star pattern of Torx head screws is really hard to strip, but you do need the special driver. ProSlot is marketing one in slotracing circles, and you can also usually find them in good electronic stores. You can drive an allen screw (.05" is the same size as most gears and tires) with a Torx wrench, but not a Torx screw with an Allen wrench.

are these new torx screws self taping ?

as supplied by ProSlot and Kelly are self tapping, although the taper is very slight. They are also a true 80 threads per inch, and can be used in cobalt motor setups where the traditional 0-80 screws go.
