Mazur,

I break in ALL motors, 16d thru Gr.7, in water. I don't care if they are shunted, have ball bearings, balanced or not.

The important thing is that you have a good source of compressed air to blow the water away when done, so there is no water left in the brush hoods, comm slots, bearings, etc.

I find that one minute at 2 volts, or 40 seconds at 3 volts is sufficient.

NEVER run a timed motor backwards for any reason. At best, the brushes will be pulled to the opposite side of the hood than you intend and then require more break-in. At worst, the increased current draw may hurt the springs or your power supply. An X-12 motor that drws 5-6 amps the right direction can easily pull over 10 amps going in reverse!

i heard that running a motor backwards may help clean it a bit, not during breakin though just anytime
