Monty,

Is the S16C the hottest motor allowed in the USRA's standard GTP class?

Also for the GTP class what motor, timing & gear ratio would you reccomend for the track found on this page:

http://www.raceworldspeedway.com

I think the track is roughly 85 feet long and it is VERY flat... We are currently running a Champion Turbo-Flex chassis with OS Cadillac body. I just installed a S16C with a 38 degree Proslot arm. Current gearing is 9/37. this is the fasted combo that anyone local has come up with so far. Terry Kelly and Co. have gone slightly faster when they USRA series came through a few months ago.

Thanks,

Freek,

In theory, with 55 turns of 28 guage wire, a Super 16 C is the hottest of many motors allowed in the Nat.USRA GTP class. The point to be careful of is that the theory works best when you have the room and power to really use the motor.

Thats a fine looking flat track: It looks like it might even be bigger than the 85 feet you mention, but not by a lot. Naturally, I can't tell by looking what the power is like.

I wouldn't want you to run out and buy another motor on speculation alone, but you might realize a small lap time reduction with something that spools up easier, like a SuperWasp. The Superwasp is lighter, so handeling should improve, while the loss in top end might not be very noticeable. Then again, I may be all wet and if you are already the quickest local, why worry until they catch up to you?

Monty,

Thanks for the feedback...

I'll give the Super Wasp a try. One more motor in the slot box won't hurt me. I enjoy testin' and tunin' almost as much as I do racing!

Wait until they catch up... Nah, I don't think so. :D

Thanks Again,
Freek

Monty,

I should have a Super Wasp arriving in the mail any day now. I forgot to ask you what gearing you would reccomend. Should I gear it the same as the S16C? 9/37

Thanks,
Freek

Freek,

The strength of the superwasp arm is that it accelerates quickly, being a short stack and light weight. My best guess is to start around 8/38, maybe even lower for the short track. Superwasps tend to run like slow Gr.12's, with a similar torque band.

I know quite a few GT12 racers who would be using a SEVEN tooth pinion on a track that short and flat.
