Does anyone know sorts of chemicals treated tires are treated with. It seems by smell that the different companies are treating with differnet chemicals, but all are achieving a similar result.

Any ideas ?

Good luck in getting info on this. Most of the tire makers seem to consider treatment information as top secret.

if you are talking about lotion, my guess that the formulas are VERY similar, but its only one ingrediant that makes them different, which is the scent. but if you are talking about tigers milk and stuff like that, i'd say its mearly lotion, with another name put on it.

Tires are treated as donuts with (Secret Solvent Formula)as this causes the donuts to shrink...so I am told.
The ones that know how won't spill how to do it...thats why one company that used to be about the biggest tire maker makes nothing anymore.

I think you're right about the mfrs not telling anything

I've heard from a couple of places however that 'fish' rubber is just natural rubber compound. Why it would have a fish smell I dont know. But I've also heard that fish oil is used to treat the tires (what kind of fish?). This might be worth trying. It's interesting to note though that some of the fish tires say to leave them in the tubes until you use them. This may be because air has a negative effect on natural rubber (like check out an old rubber band).

So much for the rumors; one thing I do know is that good rubber will get soft and sticky if you put lighter fluid (naptha) or some oils on it (I think tigers milk falls into this category). This isn't the same kind of sticky as you get from gluing the tires but it could be related. I believe that the fluid actually eats the rubber a little. One concoction that I've used is a mix of lighter fluid and STP massaged into foam tires and let stand for awhile.

Just my $.02

I have been using and applying an STP diesel oil additive for a while now which has the effect of making the Alpha Piranhas more softer and stickier.

I even tried soaking overnight tires that are of medium hardness and they end up as soft and sticky as the Piranhas.
