I had a blast..... not a lot of sleep, but had a blast.... great racing, great venue, and great friends, new and old.........want to thank Rob, Fester (Dan), Mrs. Fester, and all the crew at PSCR.. also Mom ( Paul Kassens ), they made us all feel VERY welcome.... special thanks to all the racers that helped out the Spud Bunch with advice on the track and set ups.... I got to visit with a lot of the guys I used to race with and made oh so many new friends...... Rob aloud us basically full run of the place to be able to thrash to make the races..... Vance and I were painting or truing tires (or eating, great food served by our hosts) for our bunch and tried to get our stuff set up too...... sleep deprived, but I wouldn't have had it any other way.... I am making plans for next year for the flats and I promise to make a better showing than I did this year....... hope to see everyone, or some of the PSCR group in October for the Wade 500 and racing on our King and the new home of the Canadian White Track.......... AGAIN THANKS TO ALL THE WASHINGTON RACERS AND THE CREW OF PSCR FOR A WONDERFUL TIME.........

What a weekend!

I took off work on Friday to go to the track and get the finishing touches done on my cars. I had built two new cars for Adv LMP and Group 10. Plus I had rebuilt my all my old cars as well (9 cars in total). So when I got to the track I had a lot of testing that needed doing and some bodies to mount. I also had a new BOW motor to put in my GT12 car that arrived at the track Thursday night. So after finishing mounting the bodies I had painted Thursday night, I put the new motor in my GT12 car and did a bunch of testing. I finally got it where I thought it was half way decent and "filed" it away in its spot in the box and started working on my Adv LMP cars (I had built a new one and had 2 more that had good motors and were proven in past races). It turns out that the new C11 030 2pc was the best car so that is what I ran. I mounted its new body and filed it for Saturdays race. Then I moved on to the JK Box Stock LMP. This was about 11:30 PM and I had been at the track since noon. I put the car on the track with the new body and was turning lap times well below the track record when the motor came loose for no apparent reason. I remounted the motor and put it back on the track and the motor had basically died! The old real fast and die trick! :( I can only think it got really hot and burned itself out. By this time Rob and Dan were trying to close up for the night so I quickly got a motor off the wall and decided to mount it in the morning.

Saturday morning I arrived at the track about 10:45 and quickly started working on my Box LMP car. I put the new motor in and did a few test laps with the old body. The car seemed to be working well so I mounted the new body on it and put some new tires on it. It went in the box ready to be raced. I then did some final checks on the other two cars before it was time to go start the teching of cars for the Box LMP race.

In teching the cars all weekend I only found a couple of infractions. I'm very thankful that the racers were striving so hard to be legal! It really shows that the people are in this hobby for the fun as well as the competion.

So, racing... Oh Yeah that! :)

Box LMP, I think I qualified P2 so my car was in pretty good shape for the race! It handled awesome and was very easy to drive. I was easily leading the race but made a mistake coming out of the keyhole and the car slid down under the bridge where it was quickly blasted out the other side by an on coming car. Result was gear 0, chassis 0, and on coming car 1. My disastrous racing streak for important races is in tact. On to Adv LMP. Again I made a driving mistake that put me as a rider on another lane resulting in my car hitting the wall so hard on the back straight that it bent the rim of the tire all the way to the back of the rim AND broke the axle. So, two races down and two races with problems. On to Group 10. My race luck continues and I'm out before the end of the race.

Now all of this wouldn't be so bad, but in each case I was in the top 3, plus, I have had similar luck in each of the series races we had going all the way back to the first series race last fall! So Saturday night I was feeling pretty frustrated!

Sunday was a new day after getting home at 4am and arriving back at the track at 11:30am (I over slept a little!). I actually made a big mistake and changed my tires to the race tires before qualifying. The rubber on orange was really heavy and like many cars, mine just didn't want to work. This resulted in a C-Main run for me. I started on white and decided to put some bullet proofing pads on the bottom of the rear pans to see if I can make the car work better. BIG Mistake! The car was horrible. So going onto red I pulled the pads and it was night and day. The car was really working well and I pushed to play catch-up. Not what I wanted in a big race like this! I think the difference between Phil and I are mostly due to my ill handling/poor driving in the first heat! All in all finishing 7th overall from the C-Main was a great achievement for me as going into Sunday I had one goal, finish both races! :)

Eurosport... I had told Lee that I wanted to rent one of his Mack Euros 3 weeks ago at the last season race. Little did I know at the time, that I would be able to purchase the car from George. So, in warm ups Sunday morning I was turning 3.31's on red lane while trying to avoid traffic with the car I got from George. The car was just "right". It had lots of HP and the handling to go with it. When Lee pulled out the car for me to run from his stable I compared it with the one I bought from George on Friday and it just didn't compare. There was nothing wrong with it, but the other one suited my driving style better. So I chose to run the one I got from George and that was the best decision I have made in a long time! That car was a dream to drive. During qualifying I put 6 feet of choke on and tried to get my rhythm. When I hit the 3.1's I breathed a sigh of relief and clicked down to full up. That was just enough to upset the car in the esses so I pulled the car not wanting to hurt it for the race. Since we had two mains with 10 people I chose to take the last sit out. I think that was a good choice as there was a lot of crashing and banging in the first two heats! Starting the 3rd heat the highest lap average to that point was 72. I knew that last month I had done 82 on Red with my other car and this car was significantly faster and easier to drive. So I had a lot of confidence that I could "get er done". Even with tall race tires the car was a dream to drive and without pushing hard I turned 74 laps on the slowest lane of the track putting me 2 laps up (by avg laps) over the field. Going on green I again drove with the idea of being clean but fast so I would to not wear out my tires too much. I turned 77 on green and increased my lead. In blue I again didn't push as hard as I could but I still won the heat and increased my lead a little more. At this point I put it in cruise control and never really pushed until I was halfway through orange. Even though I wasn't pushing hard I was still increasing my lap avereage over everyone else. I was in the enviable position that I had WAY more in reserve than everyone so I could blow by people at will. I knew I needed to be careful of my tires so I forced myself to slow down and try to drive as fast as I could with no tire slippage. I was also driving very defensively so that I didn't end up with a broken car. I remember several instances where I was the only car still running on the track as I had slowed/stopped for wrecks that others plowed into. In the whole race I think I only came off 6 times. Two of those were cars coming across two or more lanes to take me out. Two of them were on White lane where I misjudged the braking on the tunnel turn. All in all it was the best Euro race I have ever run in!

I have to say, the racing was some of the best racing I have done in a long time! I'm sure I'll never forget the first 2 heats of the Group 10 race where Dale and I were out front side by side for two full heats with neither one of us giving an inch. First with me on blue and Dale on Green. Then with me on Purple and Dale on blue. That was probably the hardest most fun two heats I have had in a long time. Only to be bettered by my Euro race on Sunday.

It was great seeing some old friends and meeting new ones. I've missed racing against Vance and it was a pleasure to be trading paint and storied with him again!

Finally (sorry for the long post! ), I want to especially thank Rob, Dan, Sarah, and Jeff for putting on such a fine race! You guys were awesome! Also we really need to thank all the sponsers who sent out the great prizes! Two controllers and lots of useful stuff! I was blown away at their generosity! I know I came away with some very useful jig blocks from Precision Slot cars and a couple of packs of solder from Team Cort. I also got certificates for two arm balances, one from Buef and one from Alpha. Totally awesome!

I would also like give shout out to the great organised event that Rob, Dan and Sara (who kept both of them in line) put on. Lots of racing in three days.

Was great to see Gary drive to his well deserved Eurosport win, he one of the nicest and fastest drivers in the NW.

Also one other important note: A Huge Huge thanks to the best pitman in the NW, Cody Kosir who assisted me through the race by moving my euro car over at end of heat, lane restickering, hooking up my controller when I forgot (while in the pit) and helping any way he could.
40 laps into the first heat of eurosports I was rear ended and shatterd "both" my motor magnets. Cody was there to help out and keep me on a level mind so I could solder in a fresh motor and get back into it. Thanks Cody

What an event!
A huge shout of thanks to Rob, Dan, Sara, Jeff,Paul,Jim and all the rest of the crew that made this
a killer event! The Flats is finally back in Washington State. Before I get into saying much about
the racing and my personal stuff everyone out in OWH land has to try and make it to next years
event. This was not only one of the largest scale races in the great U.S of A, but kind of a
celebration of sorts. Sure every event has it's douters, but Rob and Dan and crew pulled it off.

Yeah, I really hated to stop tuning on cars to hit the BBQ or take a half hour off for the raffling off
of all the door prizes, but everyone. It was great! These guys at PSCR gave all the manufactures
that donated the prizes, lots of air time and there dues, I'm sure in the long run that will pay off too.

Heck, Cody and I ended up with door prizes from eleven different vendors/suppliers, thank you all.
And with that said I should give them what they all deserve. keep in mind this is just what we won.

1. DR Racing Products.... Dan's new brake adjuster
2. Precision Slotcars.........Chassis block/jig
3. Difalco..........................Ball bearing trigger kit
4. Balanced by Beuf..........Arm Recon's
5. Camen..........................7 tooth 72 pitch pinion
6. Parma...........................Lane sticker's
7. Alpha............................Lead wire
8. Koford...........................Tires
9. Cort Model Motorsports.......lots of solder
10. Eagle Dist............... ....Clear body
11. SlotFox .......................Brass wire wing car chassis

Thank you all for the wonderful door prizes!

Kevin, I'm down in the Bay Area and cannot get a plane in time to fly up to Seattle to watch it....I guess I'd go to a Best Buy and when nobody is looking change the channel and watch it. Hey, is there any way to see the program down here? Can we see it on a website or a podcast or somepin?

It's still cool to see the slot car report - this time on Evening Magazine - a local show at 7 PM with a huge following.

Nice to see it once again on another program with a different intro... and... it's online on yet another program's web site.

I still get teary eyed every time I watch it!

HEY!!! That's Old Weird ME in the donut - showing on the "cover" view of the video! :p
