Guys,

As the rulekeeper for Great Lakes ISRA, I'd like to push a simple issue:

Currently the series are split over rear bushings vs ball bearings. I view this as ridiculous and I think that we should be able to come up with a single national rule here. I had thought that NE ISRA had decided to move to ball bearings a couple of years ago.

Could someone please help me to understand why this issue is still contentious?

Don't know the answer but Tri-State allows the use of axle bearings. I also thought I heard NE ISRA was moving to bearings some time ago.

Greg,
The ISRA/USA rule book allows for ball bearings and has for two years. When the rules were published for this years North American Scale Championships, both Jerry and I missed the bushing only statement. In an effort to have only 1 published rule book we decided to let the bushing only rule stand for this race. So bearings are good across all series.
As a side note ,I have always felt , the regions should be allowed to adjust rules to allow for local preference. The adjustments should only be made to increase participation. We have had this talk

Thanks, John and Lou!

I agree with you about the local participation, but I had thought that we were all in agreement about the JRL bearings and was surprised to see it different. I'm sorry that I missed the discussion about the one race exception. If I'd seen that I wouldn't have posted. I'm sorry.

Greg: You have nothing to be sorry about...Jerry and I were the ones that missed it when we read over the rules. I should have have asked others to proofread them so we might have eliminated this error. The rules were pieced from The Garden State Rules (who's series does not run JRL) and an older set of ISRA /USA rules. However, we did not catch the error before they were posted on the internet for this race. Jerry and I did not want to retract or make changes once the rules were posted in fairness to people who may have printed them early.

You did not make a mistake by saying something.....open comunication is alway good.

Thanks-
Lou

I like the statement Lou made in post #3, in that regional series should be permitted to adjust the rules for local preference, IF it is done to INCREASE partipation.

I think the Tri-State ISRA series is a good example, where they permit Falcon's to be run in it's Indy and B-Lite classes. Also C-cans are permitted in the Open-12 class. Everyone competes together, but the classes are scored separately.

Has increased racer turn outs...
