Any more news on that proposed Chicago Retro League involving monthly races between Chicagoland, Mid-America and Lake Barrington (I think)? Sounded like a GREAT idea to get Retro racing going again in Chicago.

If there's room for mid-pack racers, I'd like to participate in this. My brother, Tom, probably can't come all the way from WI (could be wrong) but this does sound like a fine idea.

Larry / Jim

I didn't want to hijack Swiss's race results thread so I started a new one

Right now it's on holding pattern.

Bill Worden who usually did the schedule and the adminstative work in the old Scale Racing Series was going to do the same for this series. As in the past I was going to do tech.

In the past and as planned for this series it was to be October - March with each raceway having 2 races for the total of the 6 months. We planned on doing the first race at Swiss's as a Sano warmup

Anyway, Bill tells me when he approached the 3 raceways for their input about hosting a race one didn't want to participate.

Normally, Bill would finalize the schedule in August so we'll try again.

Sadly, this sort of stuff only hurts the racers.

BTW:

Jim you more than welcome. Guys like you, Bill and I'll include myself in the mix is what we envisioned the series for. Guys who want to have fun racing retro cars at the 3 local tracks who don't think it's the Nat's.

If there are any updates I'll keep everyone informed

Sorry to hear that plans for the Retro League have hit a snag...

I would think that all three tracks would jump at the opportunity to participate and help grow retro racing in the Chicago region.

Pretty 'small minded' thinking on the part of the track that chose not to participate. Sounded like a win-win situation for EVERYONE.

You're right, stuff like this really hurts the racers.

Perhaps the racers should express their opinion by voting with their dollars and support the two tracks who want to participate in the League?

Good luck going forward with the plan. Perhaps three races at two tracks?

A retro series sounds good to me, Bring it on.

I'm sure People who race at Mid-America will support any series that is started, and even travel to other tracks.

Keep us informed,

roger

I got off the phone about a 1/2 hr. ago with Bill Worden and he agreed to pass the Retro series on to me to run.

Tentatively there will be a 6 race series amongst the 3 tracks(2 races each) mentioned and will start up in September
with racing scheduled on Sundays like the old Falcon Series.

" Guys who want to have fun racing retro cars at the 3 local tracks who don't think it's the Nat's."

It's not the Nats? ;-)

It's great that all three tracks are going to participate. No ... it is GREAT!

That is GREAT news for Chicago/Illinois retro racers...

Congrats to Bill and Rob for originating the League concept.

Still have to wonder 'why' one of the three original tracks that were approached refused to participate?

Some folks just don't play well with others...

Larry,

we've been on board since day one.

you will have to ask John or Mike why they didn't want to participate.

Larry,
Since you can't seem to leave this alone, I originally told Bill Worden I would be happy to participate but had
concerns about Rob's involvement.

One my locals just gave me permission to post his E-Mail to me from May 19th, when talk of a series got brought up
in my Slotblog thread about my monthly house retro races:

What a pain in the ***! If he is involved in “running” a series in the future no one will come.
I could not take his constant sniping! I like the once a month on Saturdays. .

Basically, Bill and I took the bull by the horns because no one else has. Others including yourself have had the opportunity since you held the first Sano in 2007. Anyway I think it's great that you now want to take this over. I still get a retro series in Chicago that goes to ALL 3 facilities and don't have to make the personal commitment to attend ALL the races like I would have if I was doing tech. Win / Win situation for me.

In regard to your quote:

Well, if no one had shown up to the series because of me than you could have said I told you so. Instead you decided you wanted to run it. As I said before, I sincerly think that's great.

I look forward to your schedule and hope it's out soon now that everyone is on board with a retro series. I also look forward to seeing you at ALL the races since your now the series director.

So... you were the the track who originally 'refused' to participate in the League?

But, now you are OK with the concept, since you have 'control' of the series, instead of Bill and Rob?

Interesting...

And, you based your decision on the opinion of one racer's e-mail?

Even more interesting...

But, the good news is that the racers finally have a retro series to compete in, irregardless of 'who' is running the program.

Thank you for being candid.

All of my questions have been answered.

Ray

Yep...

Roger (Mid-America) and John (Lake Barrington) MORE than answered my question as to which track 'originally' chose not to participate in the League.

Rest assured that I will be the first to congratulate the first League winners.

Ugh. This whole thing started with someone's really good idea. Will it continue through to fruition before the unhappiness deep-sixes it? I hope so! Honestly, through the magic of our keyboards, we could collectively turn the notion of a happy ending to a date with Cheryl Cole into a bad idea. Any chance of getting this back on track or closing it and starting again?

I sure hope so! But at least not until I Google Cheryl Cole! :p

(does she race retro??? I never heard of her...)

OK - back to Retro...

I think the only Chicago area track that does NOT want to participate is Dad's Raceway in DesPlaines..and they do not participate in any series or run regular races. Their original (design) Orange track is more than functional for retro racing as well as the oval.
The other area track is C & R Raceway in Bradley, just South of I-80 and Chicago...it is in transition of owners now.

Lake Barrington also has an OVAL...Retro Nascar is possible.

Ya'll come to Mikes this Saturday for the POW WOW and afternoon of racing retro on the King. Everyone remember to bring the schedule conflicts. This is a warm-up race for the SANO V.

Many of our retro racers like to attend the 1/1 retro races at Road America and the Midwest slot car Swap meets in Indiana (on 20 Nov) this fall.

I assume the IRRL 2011-2012 schedule has been finalized. Would someone please post it here or post a link to the thread?

Thank you.

No, it has not.

The only date set is the Sept.25 date at Chicagoland.

We will be skipping Oct. for the Sano.

The season will resume in November.

Once I check the adjacent MRRA and ORS Retro series schedules and USRA Div. II dates, I'll come up with the 5 remaining (weekend) dates.

As discussed at the IRRL meeting, Mid-America will get the 2nd & 5th pick, Lake Barrington, the 3rd & 4th,
and Chicagoland will get the remaining date.

It is time to identify the best dates and tracks for the new season. We just finished the August Sano 6 warm-up and I believe that Mike is penciled in for a September warm-up as well. Since the Sano is in early October, there has been some racer discussion about a mid October series race as well. AND ADDING Northern Indiana Tracks to the series. I would support both these ideas, especially if a car-pool worked for out of state races. Any discussion???
