Jim,
Thanks for the response on the Ask Paul thread I have moved the follow up over here. I thought about your answer and I now understand that the Mush Button increases the sensitivity of the controller through out its range which as you pointed out would be impractical on an external. How about if I hooked up the first band with a 8 ohm 20 watt resistor in series and spread out the other bands to get a similar response curve ( not terribly important running wings). I would put a momentary pushbutton switch in the series to disengage it when I don't need it and push it and run the car on the first band when I do. Does this sound like it would work and would a 20 watt resistor be sufficient. By the way I have two of your brass block externals which I love the feel on and I hate the thought of retiring them. I suppose I will break down and switch to your E-motions eventually but not quite yet .

Thanks,
Paul Kovich

Hesketh,

I was once told the only way to do that on a external resister controller is to simply change the first band or two. That way it is less sensitive if your trying to pull through the glue. Then leave the rest or the bands wired the way you like.
Hope this works for you. That's how I have mine wired.

Paul, sorry for lag in response. The day I got homr from vacation our computer was hit with klenz.h virus and we just got it back running.

If you are looking just to reduce the sensitivity to get the car out of glue zones on restarts and deslots the rheostat should work. The 8 ohms is way too much resistance, a regular 2 ohm brake rheostat would be better suited. You would not need to spread out other bands if you are just looking to help on restarts. Just pull controller to first band before power goes on.

You would also not put a switch inline with rheostat. It would be best just like Bonzi suggested to modify first band and just leave the rest alone. You could have switch in parallel to defeat the feature if desired. 20 watt would be good enough but if you have a short and pull it to first band the track power could still blow it, hence the parallel switch.
