I have seen some wing car racers who would narrow the car's overall rear track width. They say that it makes the car stick better in the turns. It does'nt sound right because I think narrowing down the rear track width would probably make the car less tippy, but more tail happy? Any idea on the subject?

Rear tire width is not only a matter of making it as wide as you can make it. On full size racecars and our model racecars, the forces of physics apply. A narrower rear track can put more pressure on the outside wheel (so can a narrower tire) that super wide. Ballast on the center acts as leverage to both rear tires differently that ballast on the outer rails also.

Thanks for the reply but its not the width of the tires that concern me but the overall rear track measured from the outer edge of let say the left rear tire to the outer edge of the right rear tire.

You can make your car bite harder by narrowing the tract width. Problem is that with this narrowing you car will tip (tipping equals traction) easier.

A wing car with a narrow track will not be as tippy as a scale car. The wings create downforce that overcomes the tipping effect. But, all other things being the equal, a wing car with the max legal rear track width will be facter than a wing car with a narrower track width due to better stability.

In scale (non wing) racing narrowing your rear track width will make you car less stable. Not what you want at all. Set you car up to have bite with the max track width allowed in your rules.

Hi Lee!

Always a pleasure to receive a reply from you. Your explanation makes a lot of sense. Many thanks.
