The Clark brothers, Garry and Steve, sourced some gray rubber that was amazing. It hardly wore, worked nearly as well as wonder and never seemed to dry out.
For what scale? I would think anything with a bank or twist would exclude laminates. I think there are some Formica laminate HO tracks out there but they are flat.

Two coats in opposite directions. Oven it at 250 degrees F for 10 minutes. Let cool.
