I have been using Purple Power to soak model bodies in..... never had a problem with it ruining the bodies and it does a good job of removing the paint......I have left bodies in it for two or three days because of stubborn enamel paint.....

Thanks for the ideas. I would not have thought pine-sol would cut enamel paint. It is worth trying. Thanks.

    Google is your friend

    http://www.purplepower.com/

JD - looks like there are many choices - which one do you use???

Seems kinda like Simple Green to me... ???

I also noticed this entry on Google: (so always be sure to test before using)

    Clear ?

I have a stock of water based acrylics but after reading various articles on painting I want to start out with the Pactra R/C Laquer, concensus seems to agree it adhears better.
That said I see that there is no clear coat listed by Pactra, what do you use ? Do Pactra perhaps make a clear that's not listed ?
I've got powdered pearls and flake to try and they need a clear carrier, what ever I use must be compatable with the Pactra laquer, and, will I get the same adheasion with what ever clear you may recommend ?
I've seen some painters say they thin with 'auto' thinners but I understood that heavy voc solvents attacked lexan making it brittle or can bodies be painted with nitro/acrylic based auto paint ?
I near ready to start back into the hobby and I just want to be sure I get things right, too many setbacks can dampen ones enthusiasm.I've only had hardbody cars before so lexan is a new challenge.
    TIA John

I used to use the House of Kolor lacquers (unfortunately they dried up due to bad seals on the jars) and AllClad with good success, but now everything I do is with water based paints by one of the Createx companies (AutoAir, Parma Fascolor, Createx, Wicked Colors). If you clean the bodies well before spraying and heat set the paints, you should have little to no issues with their paint sticking. I actually have more issues with the Pactra lacquer paint sticking than I do with the water based Acrylics.

Hey Paul, I have been using purple power to strip paint from lexan and plastic model car's for years.......it's a concentrated degreaser and you can get it from the automotive section at wall mart, or from any auto parts store, works great........

as for the paint, I have been using fascolor even longer, I also use all the createx paints, all water based. Easy to use and even easier to clean up... I haven't had any trouble with the paints peeling or flaking off the bodies.. I have even used them to paint plastic model cars for drag racing and clear them with duplicolor clear coat with no problems.... as Gary said, heat setting the paint works great and lets you do multi color paint jobs so much quicker.. just use a hair dryer.... and I can't remember the last time I washed out a body before painting.... and still have had no problems with chipping and flaking........

I'll bet you can't remember the last time you used your hair dryer for your hair either! (me too!)

Maybe Paul needs to "re-link" the link
