    response

    Chris,

I was merely responding to the statement that the racer made concerning that ONLY first place got paid. I was suggesting to him to take it up with the powers to be. You are right that the rule book states that prizes will be limited to merchandise and trophies. The racer was stating that ONLY the winner received anything. The rule does not state that only the winner receive merchandise and trophy. You missed the point of what I was suggesting to the racer and took it personally. I did not make any personal statements against you or how you have hosted the Nats. As usual you have done a extremely fine job.

A proper statement would not have included the track owner but would have only referred to USRA officials

My comment was not directed to Buena Park Raceway, nor to Chris or Lenore. Chris and Lenore, have done a wonderful job and always a great host, and good friends. The winner of the spec-15 race did indeed recieve, a very nice prize from Wrightway Products, and the rest of the racers, who made the main recieved prizes from Champion.

My comment was agreeing that the USRA needs to make changes in the new tires that were ran all this week. Aswell as reviewing the cost for an amatuer to race at the Div-1 and Div-2 Nat's in the future.

I would love to see the cost go down for amateurs, seeing as I saved up for 8 months for last weekend.... thats kind of ridiculous.

I couldnt of afforded to race am-box if it wasnt for a couple of friends helping me out with motors, seeing as I can barely afford to build them anymore.....

    Prizes

Wrightway stepped up and donated a
    prize worthy of winning.
Because the winner of Spec-15 at last
years Tulsa Nats spent over 300 dollars
and got Zero in return. (Which I thought
    really sucked)

If we really want to interest new racers,
(using a spec format) then all the manufacturers
should step up and give them something to race for.

Well at least the MFG's involved in the class should. Pro-Slot, Koford, Outisight, a tire company that supplied the tires this year, and a few others should be doing that.

The USRA, to my knowledge, never sent out any "prize request" letters to any MFG this year. We all know when the Nats are, but it's nice to get a letter as a reminder to send out the prizes.

If everyone who made the Spec 15 main this year, will kindly PM or E-mail me their mailing address to fast1ron@yahoo.com I will send those who made the main some bodies from Outisight.

    still only a hobby

The winner received a nice prize from Wrightway along with Champion products for all of the main event participants. Great plaques were given out to the podium winners. At this "entry level" it should still be a hobby IMHO. It appears they received what the rules indicated were appropriate at the Spec 15 level.

If you can't afford this level you'll never be able to progress to the higher levels, at least on a national level.

This is still a hobby. One where your investment in time and money will NEVER break even, much less end up in the black on your ledger. If you're doing it for the money, you're in the wrong hobby (sport? . . not).

Everyone pays their entry fee and fills out their tech sheet on the same level and the pay outs are commensurate with the entry fees and appear to be inline with the rules. If you're a sponsored "expert" or "PRO" have your sponsor pony up the bucks!

Most of us still sponsor OURSELVES in either division! Jump in as far as you can, but don't blast the shop owner or YOUR organization's rules. Be part of the solution rather than part of the problem. Change the rules if you feel you're being short-changed.

Sounds to me as if the tire issue is resolving itself.

    Off soap box . . . . . Have fun!

    Amature usra racing cost's!

Can't speak for the wing div. But at the scale nats it cost the racers on average 120.00 to enter a class. Way to much! the cause, Handout motors . entry 35.00 ,quarter motor 22.00, semi motor 22.00,Main motor 22.00 + any extra motors that were avail. and that's not including the expense of the car and tire's.
We held the 4th largest scale nats in the history of the USRA, Sounds good right? Not to me, I know of atleast 20 to 30 more people that might have joined in on the fun if it were not so expensive. That would have made it the largest scale nats ever.

I can certainly understand having a handout class at either Nats, But to do it in all am classes is just rediculous.

I hope the wing div does not decide to make all classes hand out tire's, it will add 30 to 50 bucks to each entry at the nats. And also take away from the racers local track sales. I know most spend a majority of each year gearing up for the nats, i.e. purchesing parts from there local raceway So they have what they need when they get there aside from minor items.
We also found that the hand out motor cost's effected how much racers spent on those cool new parts or specialty products normally found at the nats. Thus effecting the profitablity of holding the nats, which will surely effect(in time) who even want's to bid for the nats.
it is alot of work to hold one of these events, Not to mention raceways are creating a major inconvienece to there regular customers that do not race.

I agree with Mark about the hand out motors at the Nats. Wayyy to much money.
What could be done: 1. Use an all main event format, then one hand out motor is all you need. 2. Make all Amature class a one motor class, bring your best stuff and just race. (I prefer this option and I think most others would too.) 3. Leave the Expert classes as they are.
Improving performance one hazardous material at a time.
