Cruzin' Ramblin's FINAL DAY!

Well I started off the day setting a personal record making it to the track in 1-1/4 hours I really wasn't speeding too much...between 80-90 mph for 85 miles.

29 entries & Qualifying began @ about 10:15 PM.

1st round - thus far (10:26 AM) Ron van Wagnen with quick time @ 1.54. Gugu is only other with a 1.5 @ 1.55. The air is ELECTRIC...oh I know that's cheap! They're having some problems getting thru the deadman. Swofford slammed the wall and Beuf's fastest was a 1.6...

There's about 50 people crowded around the track and another 25-30+ in pits, etc.

1st round complete, Bill V calls for a vote on new rule "Rider" and "Working on car in pits". Calls for ANY NO votes to which there are none. New rule is in effect.

2nd round about to begin and Adam Friedman of Traveling Light Media announces $500 cash awards for a new world record and to the race winner. Good news Adam and THANK YOU for supporting Wing Racing in a BIG way!

Gugu fastest thus far 2nd round @ 1.55 again, his 1st round best for him. Ron VW loses motor, stands w/1st round fastest 1.541. Beuf up w/60"... one lap 1.546...calls for pats to glue...time runs out! Swiss & PA coming up. Forrest Watchers w/1.539 for TQ thus far...tweak his car a bit and...1.501 NEW WORLD RECORD! Huge applause & hugs...Gugu right there with big hug! CBS news has Forrest cornered!

Well, I got a nice little treat. Local CBS KCAL channel 9 is here and after giving Forrest some time he heard me running my big mouth and interviewed me about some track prep and other little notes...per usual I did ok with a bit of stuttering and the piece will air on Sports tonight Paul Kassens came up and was able to herd him to his domain, showing his reporting station which will hopefully also be aired.

After 2 Frank S, Petr, Tim & MSP. Gugu had tough 1st heat.

3rd heat good, same as above, Tommy, Jim, Gugu & Gary P trail.

4th heat got just a bit messy, warning from Bill on driver noise level. No changes to speak of, last move up back 14 laps. CBS news filming from bank and Swofford on Black smiling like a big dog

5th heat top 4 staying out of trouble. Gugu spur problem, Tommy pinion.

After 7 Top 4 same. Gugu out, Bill issues 5 lap penalty to Frank for setting his controller on the track as he helps someone else's car back in slot during track call. Bad news but he's just trying to keep control after many warnings. Unfortunate & fortunate that Frank has been quiet and leading Swofford 14 back of move up.

C 'Q Final Start @ 1:50 PM - 7 lanes - Benny, Beuf, Sedric, Reggie, Emerson, Bob E, Pat.

2 heat - Reggie, Beuf, Sedric, Benny & Bob same lap.

After 4 - Beuf, Bob, Benny, Emerson & Reggie. Pat out, Sedric problems (controller/motor?).

5th heat starts messy...Beuf having problems on red deadman but has 20+.

7th heat - Beuf, Reggie, Bob n Benny, Emerson 10 back.

After 2 - Petr 163, Tim & Benny 162, MSP 155, Beuf 153, Bob 149, Frank 126 & Reggie 114. Reggie and Frank got tied up, Reggie's motor out.

After 4 - Benny & Beuf 316, Petr 315, Tim 313, MSP 308 (& crashing!), Bob 293, Reggie 273 (motors), Frank 229, bent rim, bent axle, motor.

5th heat - Beuf 401, Petr 384 (w/run to pits 4?), Benny 382, MSP 379, Bob 351, Tim 346 (motor poof and after Chris changed he got hit and motor out), Reggie 320, Frank 296. Benny rips 1.922 on yella.

6th heat - Bill gives warning about racers running at heat change and asks for respect & consideration; a moment later MSP gets reprimand for yelling and is warned he would be tossed from race if attitude continues. Beuf 485 (84 on red), Petr 466, Benny 464, MSP 441, Bob 429, Reggie 387, Frank & Tim 376 (Tim back to pits).

7th heat - TRACK! Frank seems to have a problem on purple in straight, checked and GO! Petr loses tire but back in quick. Beuf 566, Benny 540, MSP 514, Petr 505 (39 on red), Bob 501, Reggie 459, Tim 447, Frank 435.

8th heat - Battling for the move up Petr on Green & Bob on Orange! Bob gear problems...Petr tire off.. And that's a wrap move up as above heat 7!

A Semi @ approx 6:30 PM -

1st heat - Pretty clean - Jose 89, Vlado 87, Swiss 86, Forrest 84, Ron VW 83, PA 80, Larry 77, Skinner 74.

2nd heat - Swiss off in deadman on white, hit, magnets busted, he turns arm to remove bit n pieces and moves on. Ron loses body. They're getting tied up late in deadman a bit. Forrest 169, Vlado 166, Jose 161, Bill & Mike 154, PA 151, Larry 146, Ron 127.

3rd heat - Forrest & Vlado 251, Jose 238, Swiss, 236, Skinner & PA 235, Larry 222, Ron 197.

4th heat messy and getting worse Another gear in the shirt syndrome tying up the race Vlado 326, Forrest 322, Swiss, 309, Jose 307, Skinner 306, PA 293, Larry 281, Ron 224.

5th heat, Swiss busts another setup. Ron out for few...Vlado problems on Purple. Ron out. Forrest 398, Jose 390, Vlado & PA 373, Skinner 360, Swiss & Larry 358, Ron 254.

6th heat - Forrest 481, PA & Jose 456, Vlado 449, Skinner 440, Swiss 438, Larry 434, Ron 305.

7th heat - Forrest cooks one, goes out w/fast lap 1.914 but still leads! LOTS OF ACTION, Skinner to the pits. Printer jams

Last heat Swiss (yella) trails Vlado (orange) by 5 & Larry (blue)another 10 back. Skinner out, Ron back in, Larry out. Movin' on up - Forrest, Jose, PA, Vlado.

Here we go - RACE TIME @ 8:30! There's about 85 people on hand to watch the BIG ONE! Racers take their one lap intro and Bill gives etiquette warnings and gives credit to race sponsor GT1 Gears & Traveling Light Media.

1st heat - Couple track calls, getting tied up in the finger...Benny goes straight up the bank (was it those 2 beers he had with Gugu ) PA to the pits halfway thru...Beuf 141, MSP 140, Forrest 133, Jose 129, Benny, 129, Vlado 127, Petr 119, PA 83. Fast Lap Vlado 1.921.

2nd heat - Forrest to the pits cooked motor . Returning his car to the track car was put on late in bank and Benny smacked him Forrest back out, motor. Forrest back in...back out gear...

3rd heat starts tough - Beuf got into someone in finger and lost 8 laps. MSP's cookin'...PA leading heat! Forrest fast lap 1.914.

4th heat - MSP cooks one & a track call...track clear EVERYONE SHOUTS POWER UP POWER UP! Another track call...POWER UP POWER UP! MSP Changes motor and now head up w/Beuf & Benny Benny cooks w/1 min left...loses 40" & back in. PA cranks another 140 and Fred Hood mentions with a few hiccupps he could be back in it . Tore, Joel and I have a good laugh on that one He hasn't been in the city too long dontcha know

5th heat - Power up and power off for mid race tech as Chris does cursory check for chassis engravings. PA out with a hiccup on his own. PA back in. Heat getting messy. Trouble in the donut for MSP as he hits Forrest's car being put back in slot...continues to be messy. Beuf (white) takes lead from MSP (purple). Benny about 30 back in 3rd.

6th heat - Petr doesn't start. CRASHES, Beuf to the pits! TRACK TRACK TRACK...Beuf back in...(Andy just informed me that JPVR has just gone to the doktor for carpel tunnel index finger). PA is REALLY crankin' on green 1.858! He and MSP lead heat. Petr also crankin' 1.859 orange...CHOKES OUT THE WINDOW!

7th heat - pre heat report finds Beuf up by one over MSP, Beuf on Green, MSP on Yellow...know what that means! Beuf finishes on Blue, MSP Orange! Early in heat Beuf comes off in donut and Skinner ALMOST puts him in wrong lane...Beuf's a little excited, loses about 4. MSP trouble, loses pin & a bunch of laps...here comes Jose Mario only 10 back of MSP! MSP in pits, Jose takes 2nd 30 back of Beuf! Sad time for MSP, moves to 5th. Benny takes 3rd w/Petr right behind. Forrest sets high heat on orange 147!.

8th heat - Vlado doesn't start. Race now is for 2nd. Benny passes Jose for 2nd. 2 min down, Jose motor out, Petr to 3rd. 3 min down Petr in pits, MSP to 3rd!! 1:26 left TRACK, Beuf up by 60+ WINS!
