MON THE BIFF !!!
Charlie, it's not really Ron, although he clearly enjoys agitating for the pure joy of it. Stick is like so many others over the years on the board, sitting on the sidelines being a monday morning quarterback telling us that our hobby is going down the tubes when he doesn't really have a clue. At the end of the day he is simply making the same old prediction of the sky falling. It gets annoying. That plus I am taking anabolic steroids and smoking crank four or five times a day.By the way Jaeger is going to Hobart in Geneva NY. We go up with him this Thursday and classes start next week. You guys can carpool to some races. He wont be able to make the Northeast Nats (nor will I) thats parents weekend at his school. Maybe some of the Schenectady races or the Barnburner though. Hope to see you soon.

Here's a positive suggestion.
In next year's photo galleries, how about leaving out the photos of guys flipping off the camera as well as the pics of plastic turds with "eat me" flags?
Such photos don't bother me in the least, but I do find them inconsistent with the oft-expressed desire to present slot car racing in a positive light. The question has been asked more than once: "What's this sort of thing look like to people viewing OWH for the first time?"
It seems especially inappropriate to see pictures of small children placed beside pics of guys making rude gestures.

Ditto, thank you Greg! And, in the line of fire...perhaps if you really wanted that kind of entertainment you could begin an X rated forum, seriously. Some of you might find these things harmless and amusing but I would hope most do not.Originally posted by brassy

The problem with our sport is not the success of one event a year, it's the lack of resources to attract "new blood" at the local level. We just opened a new raceway near Detroit and are scratching our heads on how to affordibly introduce new people to come and play. If we address the local problems the Nats will grow again also. Insted of arguing, we should be working together to find a cure, criticism from the outside is cowardly.

right it all starts at the local and regional levels. There is talk that Tulsa and Pit Stop Raceway formerly know as DJ"s raceway in Wichita, will join PA Watson ( Pasadena Raceway)and I'm sure other tracks in Texas in a series. That would be great for all of us in the southwest and Rockey mountain region to have a series and racing venue.

Sheesh... 97 entries. Bad qualifing got you in the SUB-DDDDD consi's! (:-)) I made 3 move ups. When I got to the semi it was not gonna happen again. I didn't have motors enough to compete and the car was thrashed.... still it was a good time.
All machines are amplifiers.
A part of what happened was the elimination of the "move-up" rule. If you won and/or had a podium in boxstock you could defend your title once and then you moved to the next class. You could run your designated class and the one above it so you were only able to race two classes. At least that's the way it was in the early 90's when I started racing.
Things changed at the '94 NATS in Atlanta when the proposal was voted in to allow you to skip a class...............I believe it was Ronny Burnett's proposal. He wanted to be able to run Semi-Pro and Boxstock. From there over time the Amateur / Expert catagories were formed. A humorous comment during that meeting came from Joel............"nobody wants to move up because of they're afraid of P.A...........retire him and we'd have more Open entries". Maybe Beuf should retire now.
Seriously, I agree with Ron Hershman that the number of raceways has a lot to do with it now. Also, the majority of today's youth are not interested in working on something as much as today's cars require to be competitive. If they could buy a "competitive ready to race car" and just learn to drive / practice I think you'd see more youth in competitive regional and national racing. They can come up with the money for electronics and enjoy them............they don't have to work on them to get their enjoyment.
