And now a word from our sponsor.... YOU!

    Hey Gang!!!

Follow OWH's "Almost Alive" coverage of the 2006 USRA Scale Nats - here in the Race Results Forum - and help to support OWH's ever-bulging bandwidth and server needs, as well as costs involved in covering events like this.

I'm not even racing this time out (let alone sleeping) - way too busy getting photos, video, results, & info - to share here for all those who couldn't make the trip, as well as for those who did make it and want to see the results.

This is where to find the Nats coverage gang, as there are no print magazine publishers here this year (for the first time in ages).

Keep those Rafflemania 7 ticket orders coming in! Every little bit helps a lot - and every ticket is another shot at winning one of so many very cool slot car prizes!!!

Click here for more info & how to enter:

I would like to give a BIG thanks to Al Chuck - aka "Owl Chump" for his help typing the results of the Eurosport mains!
With Owl's help, I was able to catch up and take tons of pics during the race, and even eat my "Mr Pickle's" sandwich.

Owl helped me start up the OWH "Almost Live" Nats coverage back at the 1998 RGeo Nats, and has helped many times since then.

    USRA Scale Nats Meeting

There were 37 rules change proposals voted on, plus another 2 pages of Eurosport rules proposals.

I'm not going to attempt to cover them all here, as all the results will be made available on the USRA web site soon enough anyway.

But I will share the results of the officer elections and the 2007 Scale Nats host site selection.

    Scale Div Director: Mark Greene

    Scale Tech Director: Bill Vanderziel
Assist Tech Directors: Herman James, Lou Pirro, John Emmons, Steve Forsyth, (and a 5th person whom I can not remember right now).

    Scale Comm Dir: Greg Wells

The 3 raceways bidding for the 2007 Scale Nats were:

    The Track - Gaithersburg, MD
Gerding King, Lou Pirro's UK Black

    Keystone Raceway - Palmyra, PA
Ogilvie King, New Gerding custom flat road course.

    Slot Zone - Nanuet, NY
    King Track, Engleman, Lazy 8

The first vote was to narrow down the selection to 2, and then go to a 2nd vote for the final winner.

After the first round it was narrowed down to The Track and Keystone. Slot Zone gave an excellent presentation and has an impressive facility, but the main drawback voiced by racers was that the lazy 8 Windsor track was not sufficiently technical to host Eurosport races.

The 2nd vote was very close, with Keystone Raceway winning the bid to host by just 2 votes over The Track.

Congradulations to Mark Greene, who will not only be the USRA Scale Div Director, but also will be the 2007 USRA Scale Nats Host Site!

    King of the Hill

After an extremely long day of intense racing, the King of the Hill race was much more like a big party then a competition.

For those who don't know - the King of the Hill race is basically a "run what ya brung" qualifying competition on the King Track (it was originally held on the old Hillclimb). Entrants ponied up cash per try, and winner took home the pot.

Everyone was laughing their heads off as they basically tried to destroy their Eurosport cars pushing them way over their limit on the clean and slick King Track.

When the cars got loose, they launched into some wild cartwheels, and when they got traction they made some loud THUDs when they crashed - followed by a room full overgroan kids laughing their heads off as they abused their $500 cars for a shot at the cash prize pot.

I didn't get a printout of the results... not sure if there was one... I'll ask Race Director Harold Rowe today...

The winner was 13 year old Zac Grinstead - who had the top time in the first round of 3.2, and then improved it again in the 2nd round to 3.1 to seal the deal with the top 2 times, in spite of Frank's valient efforts.

It was a lot of fun, and a great way to wind up a long day of racing.
