For Immediate Release:
Philadelphia, PA
Beginning Tuesday, April 10th Slot Car Racers from all over the world will converge at the Philadelphia Ramada Inn for the USRA 2007 Nationals.
The United Scale Racers Association (USRA) has been running competition events for over 30 years. With classes in 1/24th and 1/32nd Scale the sanctioning group is the oldest and largest in the slot car world.
The 2007 Nat’s will see competition begin Thursday, April 12th. Two of the highest quality tracks will test the drivers in this big event.
The first track is owned by “Liquid” Lou Cicconi. This is a 180 Foot monster road course that features both banked and flat turns. The second track is Mark Greene’s Keystone Flat-Track. This 120 Foot course is all flat --providing racers with many challenges.
Spectators will see cars closely resembling Lemans and Daytona Prototype racers as well as Stockcars and Formula One.
Slot cars made their debut in the early 1960’s with somewhat crude and “toyish“creations until racers began to modify and construct their own scratch built machines. Going from "cars" that could hardly make a lap -- todays racers see speeds reaching 80 miles per hour.
Today Slot Cars are the fastest accelerating wheeled vehicle on earth – holding their own with NHRA Top Fuel cars at the 60 foot mark.
Spectators are welcome at this year’s event with free seating available. Both race tracks will be open during non-racing times for visitors to try their hand at these high speed machines. In an outstanding location, the Ramada Inn is near the Philadelphia but away from airport congestion.
