Were they american made armatures?

I don't generally stock Bag motors, but I'm pretty sure you can't buy a decent arm let alone a complete motor for those prices.

There's also always the option of being able to vote out handout motors, if submitted it would go to a online membership vote . Proposals are excepted until the close of the scale nats

Yea ur right Brian, thats like a min of $50 a class. Mr. G, do you think you can try to lower the daily practice rate or even possibly make a one time flat rate for the week. Is it also possible in lowering entry fees. Come on, anything to help the little guy.

Just as soon as someone lowers the cost of plaque's,tracks,braid,hotel expense's,handout motors,min. wage and anything else one could think of.

I will say, the track time is pretty reasonable. I know past nats races have been as much as 4 bucks for 10 min. I know folks like to get as much track time as possible and the open track format has provided that at a reasonable cost.

Most of us save all year to beable to go.

Is the Nats expensive? Who cares? Its the Nats....

When I was younger my grandpa loved to take me to race slot cars and RC cars. Racing both, all I ever wanted to do was go to "the big races" Pop was a poor man though, I was lucky if I had 5.00 to go race on friday nights. I usually swept floors an stuff at the local track to get entry fee that night. Growing up living next to my grandpa was great. I almost had a built in driver before I could drive. He would take me anywhere I wanted to go as long as we had the money. We never could go to "big races" though. My dad worked all the time and as far as I can remember back he never came to watch me race anywhere. It was always Pop that was there. I am 31 now and have a 12 year old son. I told myself a long time ago that if there was a chance of him having fun at something and I could be part of it, he was doing it. He heard a couple of people at the track talk about the Nats. He said he wanted to go. So I am spending gas for a 12 hour drive, 2 nights in a motel, entry fees and all the other stuff that goes with that and built him 5 brand new cars, so he can race in 1 or 2 Gr.10 races.

What does this do for him?
1) It's man time for 3 whole days with no wife or his older sister.
2) He has an experience that I would have killed for when I was 12 years old.
3) Its a memory that my son will have forever.

Can you put a price on that?

I did not realize that these motors where american arms. I don't think that is a bad price for a blueprinted american motor. I was thinking that the handout motors would be chinese arms like the other Nat's I have been to. In all reality what you all are charging for the motors is even cheaper that buying a arm over the counter. I just bought some arms at the AMSRA Nat's at Atlanta slotcar speedway last weekend and paid $29.99 for them each. So I am sorry I said anything on how much the motors where going to cost. I don't like to taste of the rubber sole of my shoe but I will eat it anyway. Thanks Brian Ambrose.

Taillights, I have to agree with your the cost is not important to see your son or daughter have the enjoyment and memories for ever. My son is now 16 yrs old and I have been taking him for the past 6 or 7 years now. To me this is money well spent keeps him out of trouble and this is something we can do together that is very important to me. The other really cool thing is you meet alot of Great people at the Nats, and you really see quailty racing.

Hats off to Pro Slot, and Koford for providing these motors at such a reduced price. Every year these motors have been very fast, and I expect it will be the same this year from the manufactures. As far as the track time goes $15.00 for all day usage is a good deal. I can tell you at the Scale Nats in Portland, I think I spent $250.00 in track time it was a raw deal for all the racers.

Scale Nats "Update" 1.5mm Shafts/Am handout motors

The question was possed by a potential Nats racer. Will the Amature Racers be allowed to grind the shafts on hand out motors to recieve 1.5 mm pinions?

I felt that after further discusion between Chris ,Bill and myself. That we should announce That the Amature Racers Will Be allowed to Grind the shafts to allow the use of 1.5 mm pinions. As this is a standard practice for flat track racing.

I would also add(being the owner of the track being raced on) the 1.5mm shaft will only come into play in the GT-12 class. we have been running 72 pitch 8's in GTP.

I amoung other's I'm sure, will beable to provide this service to any racer that might not have any expirence at doing this.

Mark...can you explain why the 1.5 MM shafts are used and why only on Flat tracks. I understand the 8 tooth pinion is small...but why the smaller shaft..or ground shaft.

Is weight and "spin" or rotating weight the only reason?

I'm coming to Philly with lots of stuff...but no small pinions. Fill us in...

To enable the use of 6T pinions

In flat track racing it is common to use 72 pitch 6,7 and 8 tooth pinions and 80 pitch 6 and 7 tooth pinions all with 1.5 mm bore. This allows the pinion MFG's to cut the teeth deeper in the pinions, allowing for better mesh and longer lasting gear combo's. With out it we probably wouldn't have the 6 tooth pinions at all.

Note: Sonic makes a 80 pitch 7 tooth 2mm bore ,that works well with 72 pitch spurs. This is a option for those not wanting to grind shafts.

Mark...thank-you for the school of Slot Car class today. I was wondering how a gear could be so small and still have "nice teeth" to allow good mesh.

Is this needed for the LMP class? I do not think it would be...but I am not winning like I want to be either..

Not at this years Nats race, but if you were racing LMP on a tight flat track, You would definatly benifit from using the smaller pinions.
Eagle has various pinions from GT1 amoung others

Eg...Koford or Camen or (insert brand name here) Light/medium/Brown.
