    Local Racer

    Lenore,

Please say "Hi" to Doug for me and let him know that he is missed on OWH.

I know that he and I clashed with regular monotony, but deep down underneath, I believe that he was a decent sort of guy

Without taking anything away from the great efforts of the podium finishers I've gotta toss in a big high five to my friend Frank Sarkela.

From talking to him before the main I think he was happy just being in the room, much less in the main, then he took off, won his quarter final and his semi and ended up running a great race all the way til the last heat when Gugu got by him by less than a full lap.

Running a raceway full time doesn't leave Frank with nearly as much time to race as some folks might think. To come down from Rohnert Park and not only hang with but go head to head with the best wing car racers in the world is an amazing achievement.

And big kudos to Mr. Skinner too. He drove a spectacular race.

And of course, congrats to Mr. Silen, he took his friend Stephan Thornfeldt's motor and drove the hell out of it. Stephan has to qualify for the hard luck award of the day, he drove his own car a total of 4 laps before getting caught up in a crash which broke his chassis, from Sweden to Buena Park and gone in about 8 seconds. Unbelievably bad luck for a very good racer.

Watching Beuf work on Sarkela's car between the races showed yet another reason why he is the best wing car racer driving today. Quick, calm, not a single wasted motion. He did everything but repour the body to get Sarkela's car ready for the main. And it showed. Now I know why pit crews have their own competitions.

More racing today...who knows what's gonna happen?
