This is the same car that I ran at the ISRA 2008 Worlds with no change but for the body.
I should have rebuilt it since it ran short on motor brushes in the 5th heat at the 2009 Mid-America Masters. Ran one pair of braid the same pair that I used in qualifying.
Posted primarily for the benefit of the European racers since they can relate to the Horky chassis.
Note the modified bat pans. Copied from a picture I saw of one of Horky's cars.
Partial parts list:So if this weak car and driver can come in second at the 2009 Mid-America Masters then it should be like fishing with dynamite for the Europeans at the 2009 Nats and 2010 Worlds.

- Koford lead wires

- Koford ball bearings motor and axle (the expensive ones)
- Valiko spur (45 tooth)
- Horky pinion (6 tooth)
- Valiko arm (.295 stack)
- Camen skinny can (.637 OD) & multi-magnets (Skinner glued by Mike Stahl)
- Chassis setup copied off an even faster car belonging to Mike Stahl

Greg is being too modest. He had the cars dialed in and drove great.
Greg had good racing luck except for the open 12 race where he broke a pinion. That let me sneak in for third using a car he lent me. Thanks a ton Greg for the great car and helping me get myself back into racing condition.
It should be a great Nats in a few months. Mid America is a really nice raceway. You guys will love it. I hope to see a lot of my old SoCal buddies there.

It was a blast racing with you in Chicago again. Brought back some memories of 2001 and the "why are all these white cars taking me out?" incident. You shook the rust off pretty fast if you ask me. Great job on the comeback.
That pinion that broke in the Open 12 race was the last of the 1.5mm 7t 72 pitch pinions Tim Hould & I honed out to 2mm so we wouldn't have to grind down the shafts on our production motors. Looks like Gil was right about the durability of those "reamed" pinions but it lasted long enough for Herman to win GT-12 at the Nats in 06 with it.
Now we have EDMed 7t 72p 2mm pinions at somewhat higher cost.
Looks like I may be able to make an abreviated trip to the Nats. Maybe Fri-Sat-Sunday. At any rate I'm preparing for the race like I'm going and will have new cars for all the classes I race plus the old reliable ones.

Greg, I completely blanked out that you broke the gear! I remember Dave won the race, but you were winning everything else in sight I assumed you won it too! As for the 72 pitch 7 toothers, I have joined Lee's camp in using the 1.5mm gears for a number of reasons. First, I agree with Lee that the tooth profile is better than the EDM 2mm. Second, they cost only $7 or so. Third, I really don't find it all that difficult to grind the shaft with my Dremel, it works just fine and takes about 15 minutes. Grind a bit, color with black Sharpee, grind more, stop and measure, slow down the process when you get to 0.060", have a new pinion around for sizing, go slow, use a diamond hand file at the end, bingo, nice fit. Hey, what the heck am I giving you tips for?!?!?! You're just gonna wup me again at the Nats!!! Oh yeah, see you in June..........
