The other alternative, is to use an outside image hosting service, like Facebook, Picasa (now Google Photos), Photo Bucket, Flicr, Imageshack, etc. Host your images there, and then just link to them on your forum posts. Photo Bucket is no longer free and blocks 3rd party hosting unless paid.
You simply right click on your photo on the image hosting page, and select "copy image location".
Then back on your forum post, you hit the "insert image" icon (looks like a framed picture), and the "add an image" window should pop up. Hit the "From URL" tab and then paste the URL of your image. Uncheck the box that says "Retrieve remote file and reference locally, because for some reason this just doesn't work (I wish it did). Then hit the "Insert Image" button.
Wahlah.... your photo should not appear in your post, hopefully at the position you wanted it, if you had selected the right spot to start with. If not, you can still copy or cut & paste it to move it.

UPDATE: PhotoBucket is no longer free
All images hosted by PhotoBucket are now replaced with a "ransom note" image... unless you pay the "ransom".

I had used photobucket for years, but I now use & recommend Picasa from Google (UPDATE: Picasa is now Google Photos). You can download the free Picasa program that organizes all your images on your computer. It even has automatic face thumbnails that once you add names, it "learns" and then searches & suggests more pictures of the same person. It is not always right, but amazing how often it is. Once you organize your PC photos, it is very simple to click on "Web Album" and it uploads and sincs your pictures to your free web albums.
I only wish I had done this BEFORE my hard drive crashed.
