How to add pictures to your post

How do I attach a file to a post?

To attach a file to your post, you need to be using the main 'New Post' or 'New Thread' page and not 'Quick Reply'. To use the main 'New Post' page, click the 'Post Reply' button in the relevant thread.
On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labelled 'Manage Attachments'. Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments. You can upload an attachment either from your computer or from another URL by using the appropriate box on this page. Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page.
To upload a file from your computer, click the 'Browse' button and locate the file. To upload a file from another URL, enter the full URL for the file in the second box on this page. Once you have completed one of the boxes, click 'Upload'.
Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window. You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.

What files types can I use? How large can attachments be?

In the attachment window you will find a list of the allowed file types and their maximum sizes. Files that are larger than these sizes will be rejected. There may also be an overall quota limit to the number of attachments you can post to the board.

How do I add an image to a post?

If you have uploaded an image as an attachment, you can click the arrow next to the 'Attachment Icon' and select it from the list. This will be inserted into your post and can be located where you want it displayed.
To include an image that is not uploaded as an attachment and is located on another website, you can do so by copying the full URL to the image, (not the page on which the image is located), and either pressing the 'Insert Image' icon or by typing after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image. You can insert pictures from your albums (?) in this way too.

The other alternative, is to use an outside image hosting service, like Facebook, Picasa (now Google Photos), Photo Bucket, Flicr, Imageshack, etc. Host your images there, and then just link to them on your forum posts. Photo Bucket is no longer free and blocks 3rd party hosting unless paid.

You simply right click on your photo on the image hosting page, and select "copy image location".

Then back on your forum post, you hit the "insert image" icon (looks like a framed picture), and the "add an image" window should pop up. Hit the "From URL" tab and then paste the URL of your image. Uncheck the box that says "Retrieve remote file and reference locally, because for some reason this just doesn't work (I wish it did). Then hit the "Insert Image" button.

Wahlah.... your photo should not appear in your post, hopefully at the position you wanted it, if you had selected the right spot to start with. If not, you can still copy or cut & paste it to move it.

UPDATE: PhotoBucket is no longer free
All images hosted by PhotoBucket are now replaced with a "ransom note" image... unless you pay the "ransom".

Free Image Hosting:

Picasa is now Google Photos:

I had used photobucket for years, but I now use & recommend Picasa from Google (UPDATE: Picasa is now Google Photos). You can download the free Picasa program that organizes all your images on your computer. It even has automatic face thumbnails that once you add names, it "learns" and then searches & suggests more pictures of the same person. It is not always right, but amazing how often it is. Once you organize your PC photos, it is very simple to click on "Web Album" and it uploads and sincs your pictures to your free web albums.

I only wish I had done this BEFORE my hard drive crashed.

Hey Paul,
I don't have any trouble uploading my pics after resizing them, but my
problem is deleting them after.

I don't see any delete tab anywhere?

Where do you want to delete them? On your post? Or in your web gallery?

I suppose it goes along with my being a hopeless hoarder... but I never delete.

(except for accidentally deleting the partition on my entire back-up hard drive)

I have updated the 2nd post in this thread.

http://www.slotcartalk.com/slotcarta...732#post265732

PhotoBucket is no longer free, and all PhotoBucket images are replaced with a "ransom note" image,
unless you pay the ransom.

They have personal accounts for $59 and $99 per year, and commercial account for $399 per year.
No thanks... I'll pass.

But it's a real shame that hundreds of PhotoBucket images no longer will display here.

There are still free options... including simply pasting from Facebook.
CAUTION: Facebook hosted images have been known to mysteriously disappear.

I have used Google Picasa for years. It is now called Google Photos, and still works great.

Check the updated info in my 2nd post in this thread.

Bon Apetit!

100% agree. There were many interesting tech pictures on many web sites not just slot car related that instead of being used for education have been lost forever.
Talk about a bait & switch. The information police giveth and then they taketh away unless you pay to play. So much for people helping people.
We have switched to www.postimg.org
Why do I do this to myself?
