Spec 12 or Spec 15?

SPEC-12
For 2012 Spec-15 has changed to Spec-12. There are a number of reasons for the change and there was a considerable amount of discussion during the General Meeting at the 2011 Division I Nats. Whereas Spec-15 is only being contested in one series, and it does not follow USRA rules completely, it was felt by those in the meeting and the BoD that a change was due. Thus the Spec- 15 motors became a “one and done” scenario. In 2011 the USRA had 55 motors left over. Obviously, this is a bad situation for the racer, the raceway, and the USRA. Changing to Spec-12 provides a motor that can be more easily used in local, regional, and national racing. A proposal was made and the membership voted to change the class.I was wondering that also - so I looked it up.

All righty then. So much for my flotilla of Spec 15 motors.

This was a dead class soon after folks realized that somebody had to maintain the motors so they couldn't be sealed. Several raceways tried, several series tried, but it ended up being the same work as Box12 except for the restricted chassis. Glad they killed this officially. Spec 12? Is that OM12? That may be a great substitution. Otherwise, think about inserting GP-F as an alternative...
Thanks,
You need a start up class where everyone can compete who is not experienced. The Falcon or Hawk 7 class with a flexi chassis allows that to happen. Inexperience is not limited to age. There are many older racers without much experience I am sure. And they can use this class as a stepping stone to compete in other classes. Or just compete in that class. Just saying.........

stop the madness.........
spec 12 chassis can be used in am 12. the set up in spec could be used in am 12 with little modification. that leave arm as the only thing needed to move up( at least regionally)

I disagree. Pick a more modern chassis that is not thrown away after the Spec race. Pick something that is actually competitive in GP12 later on. Isn't this to be a feeder class? If so, why do I have to buy a 2d chassis to really compete.
Think this one out with your wallet...
If we are talking min. investment to move up to Am. it works.I have used the same chassis for my step daughter for 6-7 races and then loaned it out 2-3 times and even raced it myself a couple of times in box and it works fine still. remember I said AM 12 not expert and only for local or regional races not the nats. Hopefully by the time you move up to racing at the Nats you are not freshly moved up.
