No you don't need to be Duran and frankly I think he is one of the kind! Still there are a bunch of guys at BPR that podium in A-main races.
The weight is where most racers are heading forwards to,it is that light, depends on the design and skills.
I don't have either one of those but I sure will try it if I can.

    To answer the orginal question:

I always run my own chassis.

Any retro racer running a Samurai 4, Dragon 1, 2, or 3 is running my chassis designs.

Building from parts or from the rack is all good....

Heck I just want to twist around the King? I will try to build a new Rob Hanson chassis and one Duran chassis copy in this desperate times!
Most of the guys that I know have their Kamo chassis locked up and I got ....nothing for this big event!
I will find away to get it done, I did get some great offers.
Back to building Duran copy till I get the parts for the Rob chassis.

Ray I will let them know that you said HI, I'm trying to build two chassis at this point.
Luckily, my friend from Il is sending out one of his best chassis for me to race.
Thanks RH for your generosity to help a good cause like my self?

I get to prove my chassis on race day. It is what it is Nesta. I'd say you have done very well. I think you did 316 laps last year. Not too shabby!

Last minute build is going on here? Got a 16 railer to finish and a new Rob Hanson design to get done in two days!
Rob send me his Samurai 4 chassis for a backup, so I got a good one at this point and I also have a ride that Cukras will let me race if its needed.

This are the things that I will make ready for the Parma Checkpoint if I don't run out of time?

I will be busy that's for sure.

Better get building, can't wait to it's finished and looks like the drawing. So far the pieces look nice.
