Rule 1: The fastest car doesn't always win. No one ever won a race while hot lapping!

When your race is over don't pack up and leave while there is still racing going on. Stick around and help other racers and help marshal if needed. Some raceways look like ghost towns after the first races and the people who helped your race are left to fend for themselves. Who knows, you might learn something while you are there and become a team member for future races. It's hard to win on your own.

If you are struggling getting your car to go around in practice ASK SOMEONE FOR HELP!!! all too often you see that same non handling car getting tech'ed in and perhaps the driver waiting for Divine Intervention to get it working.

Along the same line, if you've done everything you possibly can to make your car work and it still doesn't PICK IT UP and live to fight another day, the other racers on the track will appreciate it.

You don't look like me any more.

Do you still have that pic where we look like twins?

You're right Roman, but it isn't easy. I was once winning (a rarity) an open race with Wayne Bramble right up my _ _ _ and I got bent badly. It was a struggle to say the least, but after much insistence from Andy Wasserman ( who was race directing), I walked away...right before he black flagged me.

The OWH Gallery is down while getting moved to the new server... but I found a copy of that pic...

2001 USRA Div 1 Nats @ Port Jeff

That was pretty scary... we hadn't planned it or anything... just looked at each other at the diner and realized we looked like a darned mirror.

I don't know about you, but I'm a lot older, greyer, balder, and fatter now...

Wow, that was about a thousand years ago.

Leave it to you to dig up a nugget.

Thanks for helping me to see how grey I am now.

    BTW, no way you're "balder"...impossible.

Yo Charlie.....Andy black flagged me at the Nats in NH for losing an interior, made me stop right in the middle of the heat to replace it..... I missed the move up by 3 laps I think...Grrrrrrr

I'm just waiting for the day that I'm race directing a race that Andy in ;-)

Oh and doing the right thing is rarely easy.....but it's still the right thing to do

Bumping this thread up once again,
for those who may not have been around or saw it when it was first posted...
or for those of us old geezers who may have forgotten most of it...
or for those who could just use a refresher.
