BARBERTON, OH … Northeastern Ohio’s newest slot car track, High Banks Raceway, will host its grand opening this Saturday Feb. 15, by staging a retro race for Formula One/Indy and Can-Am cars.

“We want to welcome all of our friends and racers to the new track, by holding a kick off retro race,” said owner Ross Scharf. “Hopefully this race will be the first of many big races to come for High Banks.”

The race will be held on the relocated 150 foot Tunkle-built reverse Kingleman track. “This track was formerly in Tennessee, and has some good history,” said Scharf, “it hosted both the ‘Southern Shootout’ national retro race and the FCR Nats in 2012, and was very popular with the racers. The track is bad fast, and I think everyone is going to enjoy racing on its current configuration.”

Saturday’s event will use the same race format employed by the popular Buckeye Retro Series. Doors to the facility will open at 8:00 AM, with practice taking place from 8:00-9:30 PM. Tech will commence at 9:30 for BOTH Classes, followed by qualifying. There will be NO practice between races, and no break will be taken for lunch to expedite the day’s activities. Racers will eat lunch when they are not racing or marshaling.

The High Banks race will follow all IRRA LLC car specifications, procedures, guidelines and bylaws. These may be found at retroslotracing.com.

Race entry fees will be $15.00 for the first class entered and $10.00 for the second class. This will also include pre-race practice and lunch.

The raceway will be open for practice On Friday, Feb. 14 from 1:00 PM to at least 11:00. A $10.00 pit pass will be charged.

Speaking of lunch, Scharf encourages racers to bring a hearty appetite. “We are going to have home cooked turkey and ham, cheesy potatoes, coleslaw, veggies and fruit with dip, nachos and cheese, cookies, brownies and cup cakes for lunch,” he added.

The new facility is located at 579 Tusc Ave in downtown Barberton, Ohio. Convenient off-street parking is available adjacent to the raceway.
