I would like an answer to the #82 post about grinding the front uprights. Some cars in the 2014 GTP class had ground uprights and since all the 4" stamped steel chassis use the same rules it would seem to me that it's an unwritten and unspoken about rule to grind the front uprights for clearance, since it doesn't show it to be allowed in the rule book, is that correct? Is it OK to grind the front uprights for clearance and by how much or is it no longer necessary due to the body measurement change? I wouldn't want the same misinterpretation here that occurred with the motor brackets.
I've done so much with so little for so long it seems like I can do anything with nothing at all.

I was told you can't grind or cut the front uprights and with the change you don't have to the body mounts just fine now.

    Fred,
Mic is correct. You can not cut and/or grind the front uprights.

Of note, the Version 8 alows american scale classes to work on cars between heats, the Version-DONE does not. How can we be sure what's true when it seems to change?
    Hi Guy,

After seeing your post, I just double checked, and both the link to download the 2015 USRA Rules as well as the displayed version on the Rules Page all point to the "Version-DONE" final print version. The last update to that page was on Jan 27, 2015 when I made sure it had the final version online that Shontel sent to the printer.

If you were still seeing the two different versions after that point, the only logical explanation I can think of would be if your computer still had a cached version of the old page or link, or if you saw it using two different computers and one had the old version still cached. (I recommend and use the free version of CCleaner every day before going offline, personally).

The current and final version of the 2015 USRA Rules is posted along with download links here:

I know you can't cut the front uprights as per the rules I was just wondering why it was allowed, at the 2014 Nats., if that rule applied then also. The rule for the body height measurement is great, I cut my bodies as per the rules 4 weeks ago. I guess I should have waited for these last minute changes.

Was it allowed last year as one of those last minute rules we have now become accustom to in the USRA?

The guys in the know last year also ran honed 16d motors. ..

This is why the new BOD is working so hard to fix things.

Fred, Cutting uprights was not allowed last year and we work on things year round to try to insure there are no last minute rule amendments.

Not us! I built 4 new setups specifically for Nats so that they weren't honed. Our normal NorCal 16D's are honed, but only to "clean them up". They are built with a .575 slug, and I run a .575 hone through them just to make sure everything is .575. But, the ones we ran at Nats were just slugged to .575...

I'm guessing you didn't hone yours either, Steve (Or Jonathan)... So, there's the top two that didn't hone. Not sure if the motor Paul ran was honed or not. I think it was a loaner from Frank Sarkela...

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I think you'll see that Tony Moore has pictures of the 2014 Nats. the GTP chassis have uprights that are cut, it's real easy to see. It's legal to cut the uprights in ISRA USA and I did that for the last ISRA. Now I have to buy new pans just for USRA racing. Why can't the little nit picky things be the same in both organizations? Have fun racing I probably won't make this one.

And David Parrotta finished where in NASCAR at Nats? I don't know David, but was he there?

His information about not being able to get a .560 arm into a ProSlot SpeedFX setup without honing is absolutely wrong. You can get a .575 sized hole in a SpeedFX setup, with stock magnets, using just a .575 slug. That's, in fact, what Justin ran last year...

I asked George the same question, mainly because in NorCal we run honed motors...I wanted to find out if they'd be legal. I got the same response, however, I built some that I *knew* would be legal, just in case, and they wound up better than our honed ones...

    Mr Colvin, getting defensive much?

Will your son be racing at this years nats? I've heard the Locals are pretty fast.

All i know is I built my motors and know they are legal, and would be happy to prove it.
