All star race to award over $5,000 in prizes

ALL STAR RACE TO AWARD OVER $5,000 IN PRIZES

    Rt. 93 Raceway
    2211 Manchester Rd.
    Akron, OH 44314
    (330) 861-5000

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE …

AKRON, OH … Racers attending the Inaugural All Star & Invitational Race on March 1-2 at Rt. 93 Raceway will share the wealth in the richest retro slot car race ever held, as over $5,000 in awards, cash and giveaways will be distributed among competitors.

“Sponsorship support has exceeded expectations, with many leading companies in retro racing stepping to the plate to reward the entrants,” said Ron Hershman, chairman of the race organization committee. “It should also be noted that every penny of sponsorship money is going back to the racers. Nothing is being taken by Rt. 93 Raceway to offset race expenses, or pay for race awards and lunches. Track owner Debbie Baldwin-Elvasky refused to solicit sponsorship for her own benefit. She wanted everything to go to the racers, and I think she deserves to be applauded for that action.”

Included among the supporters of the event are: Fast Ones, Dallas Slot Cars, CHR Cars, R-Geo Products, Ralph Thorne Racing, RPM Race Cars, Outisight Designs, Spray’s by Mac, Scale Auto Racing News, Route 93 Raceway, and an anonymous donor. More companies are expected to join this list before the first green flag falls for the Invitational Race on March 1.

Fast Ones, the leading motor service center in retro racing, announced a special promotion to commemorate its 20th anniversary in the slot racing industry. The Anderson, Indiana-based company will present a voucher (valued at $20.00) for one full Pro Slot ‘Puppy Dog’ motor refurb to every competitor who submits a paid entry during the two-day event. The vouchers will be awarded in both the Formula One/Indy and Can-Am classes on both days.

An anonymous benefactor has contributed $400 in cash awards. Forty crisp $10.00 bills will be distributed throughout the mains on Saturday and Sunday. Concours winners in Formula One/Indy and Can-Am on both days will also receive a $10.00 stipend.

Shontel Howard’s Dallas Slot Cars, which will host the sixth and final round of the recently announced Retro National Championship Series on Nov. 29-30, with the running of the First ‘Texas Two-Step Retro Classic’, has posted over $300 in merchandise, which includes: retro tech tools, diamond tire files, Texas Tea Oil, braid jigs, and axles. Four ‘lucky’ Dallas Slot Car tee-shirts will also be given away.

Cap Henry of CHR Cars is donating two scratch-built retro chassis’ to be awarded to the winners of the lowest Formula One/Indy and Can-Am mains in the Invitational race.

RPM Race Cars head man Rande Marshall is providing four very special and unique awards for the victors of the A-main championship races in the Invitational and All Star contests.

Outisight Designs, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, will be providing a large contingency reward program for the race. Merchandise awards will be presented to racers using Outisight racing bodies, as well as to drivers using bodies produced by of any of its competitors.

Eddie MacDonald of Spray’s by Mac will provide six custom-painted Outisight bodies (three Formula One/Indy and three Can-Am) for the All Star & Invitational clash. MacDonald is one of the premier painters in the world, and this will mark a rare opportunity to win one of his highly sought after bodies.

Scale Auto Racing News publisher John Ford is donating a dozen six-month subscriptions to his popular magazine, which has been covering all facets of slot racing since 1979.

Route 93 Raceway will be supplying awards to the main event winners and participation plaques to all entrants , along with a plethora of door prizes to be given away throughout the weekend.

The Inaugural All Star & Invitational Race promises to be a unique event that will split the competition into two separate categories. The All Star portion of the contest is based on a set criteria that will have drivers who have won a regional retro series point championship, or a major retro race, racing against one another on Sunday, March 2. The invitational race on Sat. March 1 will be open to any driver that has never won a retro championship, or an acknowledged premier retro race.

To add further significance to the All Star Race, it will also kick off the chase for the Retro National Championship Series, a six-race battle that will culminate in the crowning of a ‘King of Retro.” Points toward the championship will be awarded in both the Invitational and All Star races.

Both Formula/One and Can-Am classes will follow IRRA LLC car specifications, procedures, guidelines and bylaws. These may be found at: restroslotracing.com.

Race entry fees are $20.00 per class on both days, which includes practice and food privileges. The raceway will open at 8:00 AM on both race days. Practice will be held from 8:00-9:30 AM. Tech will commence at 9:30 for BOTH classes, followed by qualifying ,which will be conducted using a ‘laps and sections’ format. There will be NO practice between races, and no breaks will be taken for lunch/dinner.

The raceway will be open for practice on Friday, Feb. 28 from Noon until 10:00 PM. A $10.00 track pass will be charged.

The famed Rt. 93 ‘trackside buffet’ will be in operation on both days serving a continental-style breakfast, lunch, and a ‘hot’ dinner to the racers. FREE Pizza will also be provided for those arriving early for Friday practice.
