Paul, I think it would be fitting now that you're the host for the Nats to fly Bent Rim to Portland, give him a bed in the mobile home, and have him be the reporter at YOUR Nats. I'd love to read the RGT coverage of the event......Originally posted by oldweirdherald

Congrats on the nats Paul now if you would only get a super king you could have the division I nats also and I could come up with Swiss and give you crap. Well he would anyways!!! Tell Mark Woday that he has to win something or he can't come back to Chicago.

What happened to the Amateur race on Thursday?

Sorry for the delay gang - please keep in mind that I am basically a one man show here, and I'm trying to do about 4 jobs or so this year.
I spent the first part of the week showing off my proposal for the Nats bid for Raceway USA, as well as covering the races. I hadn't even gotten my controller out of my bag or had a lap on a track until Thursday night, and today I had to get my 1/32 Eurosport ready to race. Last night I got recruited to play Race Director for the Amateur 4.5" NASCAR Main, and it ran until after 2 AM, so when it was done, there was no time to copy the results down before everyone headed out of here to get some sleep!
It's been a very fun Nats, and a special one for me. Now I get to play with my toys also, as I'll be racing both Euro classes and GT-12, so hopefully I'll be able to keep up during the Amateur races, or recruit some help with the reporting.
I just uploaded more photos in the gallery, and John Nelson has offered to type up last nights results while I get my car teched in...

It remains a possibility. I've actually been giving this alot of thought.Originally posted by PDM1
Congrats, it looks like an awsome facility. Now all we need is webcam coverage for next year.
Paul
As you might expect, watching a slot car race on webcam, even at relatively high frame rates, would be an exercise in frustration. Heck, even broadcast quality TV would have trouble accurately conveying the event. BUT, certain angles (down the straight, for example) would at least let folks see the cars instead of a colored streak on a grey background. That, coupled with maybe live audio and SRT output feeds, would make for a fun way to "almost be there".
The fly in the ointment, is of course, the bandwidth issue. Live multimedia streaming requires a relatively fat pipe to work well. It can bed done over commonly available broad band options, but requires some other key pieces, the specifics of which are beyond the scope of this forum.
Suffice to say, if it can reasonably be done, you'll see it in place for the 2004 USRA Scale Division Nats.
Okay, time for Jawn to show his true colors...
Real race cars don't have doors, and they don't turn right. <ducking...>
For my money, nothing beats close competition on a tight circle-track "bull ring" for pure racing excitement. Thursday night's Amateur 4.5" race did not disappoint. In the B-Semi, I saw one outside pass after another. Most of them were even successful. Those that weren't had predictable results. Both semi's made a Winston Cup run at Bristol look like a walk in the park. The main, however, was a terrific display of outstanding driving (and young reflexes) on an extremely challenging venue. Great job, guys.

Paul,
Looks like you got both a "Knob Job" and a "Screw Job" at the NATS?
Sincerely,
Jeff Strause
BillyBob, thanks for the kind words. It was a great race. Tony passed me with under a minute left in the race. Unfortunately, I ended on red (pretty much the slowest lane on this oval) and Tony on purple, so he had me where he wanted me and the 8 lap lead I had going in to the last heat wasn't near enough to hold him off, even if I had driven better.
What's even more fun is that the Kiwi Flash took my car to a fourth place in the Expert 4-1/2 main.
How 'bout the Bird winning his semi?!?
Wish you were here!!
