    Poll: Music & Slot Cars

    Slot Car Talk Poll

    Music & slot car thrashing

I have noticed that many slot car racers that I know either are musicians, have been musicians at some point, or are involved in the music business.

And even among those who are not in the music business, many are avid music enthusiasts.

So it has had me wondering for a long time about what other slot car racers like to listen to while building & thrashing on slot cars.

So... I thought I'd start a simple poll.

While you are building or thrashing on slot cars, what do you usually like to listen to?
(please vote in above poll - check all that apply)

    1 - I watch TV / shows / movies / news
2 - News or Talk Radio
3 - Sports TV or radio / live games
    4 - Music - hard rock
    5 - Music - classic rock
    6 - Music - jazz / blues / funk
    7 - Music - top 40 / pop / rap / hip hop
    8 - Music - classical / easy listening / elevator music / new age
    9 - Music - love songs / show tunes
10 - Nothing... I like it quiet. The voices in my head are enough.

I'm not surprised at all that classic rock & oldies leads the way...

But I am a bit surprised that I'm the only one that listens to Jazz & Blues.
Mostly I like instrumental music when I'm reading or working online though...
so smooth jazz is perfect while I'm doing web stuff.
I haven't built any slot cars since moving here...
but I guess I listened to a lot more classic rock when I was actually building slot cars.
(not so much when only keyboard racing)

    Anyone else???

For years I listened mostly to NPR while working on slot cars for hours at an end, but that got to be too much like a 24/7 intro Sociology course and had to give them the heave-ho.

So, now my current preference is for “atmospheric” music like Brian Eno; Bryan Ferry; second go-round Roxy Music; a lot of Pink Floyd and David Gilmour; Morcheeba; Daniel Lanois; Peter Gabriel; Jim Campilango; Bill Frisell; John Hassell; and more. All that stuff is hard to categorize, so I just clicked the one that includes “new age” so I could feel like a snob.
