    Great Lakes ISRA 2015/16 results

    November 7th 2015
    Track; Chicagoland
    Great Lakes ISRA

This was the second race of the year. The first one was dominated by Kevin Van Pelt but poorly attended as it was so early in the year. This race was much better attended & Kevin didn't have it so easy. In fact a racer that went from most improved a few seasons ago ran a simply fantastic race to pick up what I think is his first class win. The class was Open 12 & look below to see how competitive it was as far a times go. It just don't get no closer than this. Geary Gaspord has gone from a mid pack to a front runner in a couple of years & now he firmly established his name in the winners column. Geary ran a great race & on the last lane was neck & neck with Kevin. I don't know what lanes they were on but more in the center of the track. I was racing so I'm going off the race directors call but it was close & I heard "that's for position right there". They ran a few more laps and time was counting down. It was less than 1 minute & might have been less than 30 seconds and I heard and Kevin's off. Time ran out & Geary has secured his first win. It was hard fought & well earned. Fighting for everything he got Geary deserved it as he has been so close to a win for so long. Everyone congratulated Geary, I think Kevin was the first to do it & everyone was as happy he won as if they had won themselves. I guess it pays to be a nice guy..... but I'll never know. Somehow Geary showed up for lunch late & didn't buy like the new winner should & he even managed to pull it off again at dinner time when a group of us went to Uncle Bubs for BBQ. Seems like it is becoming "the place" for after race dinner.

Kevin lent Mike Swiss a car for B Production & they both went the same times & ran the same number of laps with Kevin getting the edge.

Greg & I had a good race in JRL with me edging him by about 6ft for second.

Greg Norris made it in from Colorado for this race & we had a fair turnout. Weather was pretty nice & there was a big RC race that took a couple of the guys away.

Look below at the lap times & totals........ look at Open 12! This is a VERY competitive series with some very close and fun racing. If you want to run flat track & live in the area I encourage you to come race with us. We have some easy classes to get started in with B Production being a stamped steel chassis (everyone runs Cheetah 11's or X 25's) and JRL. I'm still running my H&R from when Mid America was in Montgomery! It has to be 6 years old or more. We let beginners run FK style motors to get the feel of it without spending any money of equipment that they don't have & a lower end controller is all that is needed also. Come out & give it a try.

    Below is what took place.

So no 1/32 classes on Sunday? C'mon, you guys are the last series on the continent to
even think about running these cars.

Sunday had other distractions with the Slot Swap meet in nearby N. Indiana having most of our racers. Maybe NEXT time....

This was the second race of the season at Chicagoland. What can I say. Good, hard, close racing. Everyone is keeping everyone else honest....... right Bernie? Racing is close & running hard. Lap totals on black are what used to be good lap totals on a middle lane. Come on out & join us for some good close racing. Oh yea we welcome new - old racer Andy Fisher & that Geary Gaspord guy backed up his O12 win with another this month....... and we are going to have to put Chuck Gambo's picture on the milk carton.

    Good day of racing.

Maybe Chuck's Eurosport record falling will inspire him to make the long drive to Westmont, for the next race. LOL

Guys are really running Black and Purple, with the faster cars, better.

I think lane conditions are really being helped by me spraying heavier, and guys coming in early Friday, and banging out some laps.

This was the third race of the season. Great rainy / snowy day for slot car racing in the windy city. What can I say. Great group of guys running as hard as they can but the racing is very clean with almost no track calls. Geary Gaspord pulled off a very close hat trick in Open 12 for his THIRD win in a row. Can this guy be stopped? It's official we have now put a bounty on Geary Gaspord. So far it's up to a new pair of braid. Well Dale Lipe drove the best race I have ever seen him drive & almost had it in the bag until the very end. Three guys in the same lap at the end of Open 12! Two guys on the same lap in JRL & ES. The guys are running the heck out of the gutter lanes & I'm getting tired of running second to that KVP guy with that smirk he always has. Might have to take away that E-Wire from him. Chuck Gambo's is still MIA and his picture is now firmly on the milk carton. Graham stopped in to check things out & Andy was with us again and should have some new cars for the next race. If you want to run some flat track racing and are in the area even if for work stop in & join in the fun.

    Next race Febuary 6th Chicagoland.

As I did last year, I am trying the lites version for B-prod and JRL - using the alternate PS FK motor for power. Still trying to go faster than a 5 second lap, but the car is less crashy than my old C-can cars......and tires last longer.

    Racing was nice and tight.

Everyone did a great job driving and marshaling.

Thanks to Andy Fisher for showing up early to marshal 3 races before he raced.

Also to Jim Crider for race directing when I raced in B Pro.

Big thanks to KVP for lending me a great B Pro car.

    You are welcome Mike.

Three Bprod races, three 2nd place finishes for you. At least I'm giving you the right car! LOL

I would also like to thank Andy for his volunteer marshalling, very much appreciated. Lunch is on me next month!

Oh yea, one more thing for Rob Voska.

The first and third time, the loaners were good enough to beat you.

Just a combination of you out driving me, me running a bit conservative, and also being just a tiny bit distracted.

I also got a nice car from Bernie, last year.
