Here's my 2 cents worth on the subject. I realized in the early 90s that to make full use of the shunts you have to isolate the brush from the hoods. I have used a heat sink grease on all 4 sides of the brush. This grease never hardens and even if a small amount ever gets on the comm. it doesn't cause any problems. I only use spring insulation on the short leg of the spring, a tip from David Liebenthal, because with the brush isolated very little heat gets to the hoods or the long leg of the spring. It's just another way of utilizing shunts when they are permitted.
I've done so much with so little for so long it seems like I can do anything with nothing at all.

Steve37 missed the point completely, which is often the case.

My "pissing contest" comment was a tongue-in-the-check jibe at another poster in this thread

Loopy37 missed that, but who cares?

Keep digging, Ron. I've been enjoying this immensely. (Although that is probably as much evidence of the smallness of my own life than of anything else).

    Tongue-in-the-check

Oh the possible come backs on that are endless, and not user friendly to our younger viewers.

    Thats not you Ron

OK, I got it. I'm a little slow these days.

Thought it had something to do with this:
