    Remove the bird cage?

Anyone got the trick to removing the bird cage from an old 36D can? Got several where the bushing became loose and lost. Want to drill them out an replace with newer fixed bushing. I'm worried if I just flatten it out the winding's on the arm may get caught due the deep recess in the can. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Are you talking about the beryllium copper spring washer thingie that used to hold the spherical bushing in place?

Just grab on of the fingers with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull - it will come out. There is a little felt washer down in the hole as well, remember to take that out as well.

When you drill out the hole, it usually falls out.

Couldn't get it with the pliers but managed to pop it out with small screwdriver. Next up drilling out the cans for new bushings, weee. Thanks to all who replied.
