    Great Lakes ISRA 2017/18

Great Lakes ISRA 2017-18 Series Race #1

November 4, 2017, the first race in the Great Lakes ISRA Series was held at Mid-America Raceway and Hobbies in Naperville, IL.

The first event of the day was the JRL/F1 race on the former D.J.'s Hot Slots Chris Dadd's built 'LTD' Track (eight entries).

    1 - Chuck Gambo 246 laps
    2 - John Miller 241
    3 - Dale Lipe 238

Next race was the Open-12 contest also on the LTD (nine entries).

    1 - Dale Lipe 276 laps
    2 - Kevin Van Pelt 269
    3 - Rob Voska 265

    4 - John Miller 265.0001

Third (Rob) and fourth (John) positions in this race were decided literally by the smallest margin that I have ever seen. It was nearly a dead heat.

The ES-24 Race was not run due to lack of entries and a wish to get the race day over with reasonably early.

The final race of the event was B-Production (nine entries).

This was the second race of the season. JP & Rick Stagen joined us along with wing guy Bernie "feel the bern" Schatz, along with the rest of the gang including Kevin "not funny" Van Pelt & Larry Kelly brought his new track cleaning solution.

We run 4 classes and it has been a stable series for the last 10 years. There was some great racing with some very good racing and close lap times and finishes.

Great Lakes ISRA was at Chicagoland this past weekend. The temp was warmer than last month but the racing was hot with some new records being equaled but not broken.
Dale Lipe is working hard to improve every aspect of his program. Great to see you and Geary working so hard. That's what makes it fun. Who knows if CHuck woudl make it 5 minutes before tech closes he might have podiumed in all the classes.

We ran all 4 classes. JRL was up first with Dale setting the pace.

Second was Open 12. It was a fast class with some great racing action.

After lunch we ran 1/24 ES & fast times were equaled but not broken by 3 racers.

Last class of the day is B Production & again Dale was victorious.

Next race is at Mid American in Naperville March 3rd on the 2016 Worlds track. Come check out some great flat track racing.

    Track; Mid America

Great lakes ISRA was at Mid America this past weekend on the 2016 ISRA Worlds track. The track was in great condition for racing thanks to some help from Dave Stall for running it in.
It was a great day for slot racing with a good turnout and a lot of laughter. Dale brought some great health food balanced with even better bean dip & dressings.

    JRL;
Rick Stegan showed everyone the way in JRL to do it for the second race in a row on what is knows as one of the hardest track in the world. Rick kept his head down & nose clean to a win by 3/4 of a lap over hard charging Dale Lipe & John Miller running a D Can! Contrary to all the drama about built motors & close racing check out the lap totals with the top 4 within 1.23 laps! Yea it seems the track and downforce is part of the equation also. We were also joined by JP's son Austin Milcherska who seemed to be enjoying his time on the flat track.

Open 12; Rob Voska took the win with Kevin VanPelt, Dale Lipe & Chuck Gambo in hot pursuit. We've all been racing together so long we have learned each others tricks. It's funny talking, laughing & poking fun while racing all the while knowing it's all a head game and IT AIN'T WORKIN NO MO CHUCK!

24ES; Kevin Van Pelt was determined from the very start and was not going to be denied in his way to victory lane less than 1/2 a lap ahead of Chuck Gambo with Two Time USRA National Champ Ricky D 6 back.

B Production; With 11 racers and sit outs Rob Voska took the win over Chuck Gambo and Kevin Van Pelt.

Next race is at Chicagoland in Westmont ILApril 7th on the Fiedler Flat track. Come check out some great flat track racing.

Great lakes ISRA was at Chicagoland this past weekend on the Fiedler Flat track. We had a nice turnout with 13 racers. Dale brought some great diet cookies that seemed to go over very well. Thanks Dale! JK Jerry stopped in to visit. Looks as good as ever & is doing well except for falling off the ladder when cleaning his gutters & cutting his forehead open. Geary Gaspord is working on the special May Team Enduro race. Stay tuned for updates.

JRL; Rob Voska led the way in JRL with some great close racing behind with JP Milcherska a few back, 2 more back and Mike Swiss ended up third running one of Kevin Van Pelt's cars and literally being within inches at the finish and beating Kevin in 4th by 2 inches at the most with Chuck Gambo 1 lap back from that fight.

Open 12; Rob Voska took the win with 1 lap over Dale Lipe. Geary Gaspord was third by 1 lap over Chuck Gambo. Pro Slot's John Miller kept his car 1 lap clear of JP Milcherska. So some good close racing all through the class.

24ES; Rob Voska took the win and joined the 3.67 club over Dale Lipe with Ricky Distefano in a solid third and a multi time 3.67 club member. Kevin Van Pelt was running very well but working on some top secret new equipment that had some teething problems.

B Production; Rob Voska pulled off his first clean sweep and after years of trying now knows what it feels like to be Chuck or Kevin. Dale ended up second again for the third time that day over Chuck Gambo

Keep an eye open for details for the May Team Enduro.

    Awesome performance, Rob.

While you flirted with records in most every class, most impressive was the 339 in Eurosport.

I have to believe that was the 2nd highest total ever, only 5 behind superstar European racer, Janis Nabokins.
