    SSR for the track

At our 6 lane track we use one per lane of the SSR (solid State Relay) as shown in the link. We also include the heat sink. We have had One fail in the last 4 years, so buy a spare or two for your track.

    About USD $5.00 each

On the one that failed, were you using a heat sink?

Yes, (it did have a heat sink) it may have been a "faulty" SSR , but we have one 150 Amp power supply plus a big battery and we have Huge cables, so there is potential for big current surges (no Fuses) if a fault arises, especially by the drivers stand. (if someone puts a direct short across the recessed braid inadvertently) The controllers are connected by IEC plugs, not alligator clips on exposed terminals as per some tracks in the northern hemisphere.

An easy way to add fusing to a track is shown in one of my pics in post #20.

Put a break in the brake wire, and reconnect it with 2 alligator clips, and some inner bundles, from stripped 18 gauge lead wire.

You can control how quick it can blow, by how many inner bundles you use.

While not nearly the issue, as much, as your situation, with your plug system, it still might prevent some horrific thing from happening.
