    American Model Raceways Catalog/Drawings

About a month ago, Rob started a thread asking about drawings for a King track. Raymond, Paul, and Rocky were able to oblige by providing drawings from various sources. Today at lunch I did a little checking into the history of the American Model Raceway company and came up with a set of track photographs...

I knew there were several AMR models popular in the 60's - but some of the tracks in these photos are unfamiliar to me. Does anyone have an American Model Raceways catalog that they'd mind scanning and sharing? In particular, working or scale drawings of the various models would be fascinating to study. Any packrats - er - historians out there?

Scans of the American Raceways tracks were posted on the old OWH Photo Gallery, courtesy of Ron Hershman.

I have reposted them on the new gallery page here:

Ron H had posted that he has the entire American Raceways catalog - hopefully sometime it could be scanned and posted online, as it no doubt contains a lot of interesting historical info on the original American Raceways tracks.

Hi Paul - Thanks for these! Ron, if you are of a mind and the spirit is willing, it would be fantastic to have scans of that catalog up in the gallery.

I guess Ron only posts if it's controversial or political...

    How about this:

Hey Ron! I heard that American Raceways secretly inserted hidden coded messages in their catalogs, spelling out the eventual devolution of rules that would lead to the virtual demise of the hobby!

It is further rumored that they also encrypted the solutions for future generations of slot car racers to revitalize and enjoy the hobby once again in the coming millennium!!!

Please scan some more of the historical documents and post them here on OWH, so that slot car racing enthusiasts can search between the lines and decode the scrambled messages!

Ron replied via PM. According to Ron: "There was no catalog to speak of...just info packets that American sent out with color pics of the tracks and drawings of one or two tracks they made close to the end of American."

Ron also passed along that there was a listing of tracks and prices and that American never sent out any blueprints of the tracks.

Many thanks for your time and help, Ron!

I checked with John Ford about dimensions and footprint footages for the tracks. His listing in the "track plans" booklet did not show variations too clearly.

    American Black 90 ft Regal 15' x 25'
American Black 95 ft Royal (?) I have one to find a home for NOW)
    American Blue 155 ft King 21' x 48'
    American Red 110 ft Prince 16' x 36'
    American Orange 100 ft 18' x 38'

Can anyone CONFIRM these footprint dimensions?

    More like 16X28

    16 X 35
    American Blue 155 ft King 21' x 48'
    21X50

Red - 18X48....Prince was a "New" American design
    American Orange 100 ft 18' x 38'
That's pretty close to right on the Monarch.

The only person I know of that has a complete collection of American Original stuff is Phil Hackett of Sonic and he has promised me for years to get me copies, but alas, he is always too busy making slot car parts and money to do it. :^) sorry Phil..... jf
