Is the existing track worn out or will it be moved to another location, giving NZ two flat tracks?
Thanks to the generosity and foresight of a small group of local racers, Wellington (and indeed New Zealand), is soon to get a brand new 8-lane flat track which will meet international standards.
The track was constructed in Latvia by Janis Nabokins, is 46.1 meters (151.2463 feet) in length and is made from a plywood substrate with a textured polyurethane finish that has been painted in a similar colour to our existing track.
See you guys soon![]()

I like long walks, especially when they're taken by people who annoy me.
It has passed its best use by date, is becoming uneconomical to repair, and will be dismantled and parts used to make a new home track![]()

Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you going to make a proposal for the ISRA Worlds?
Why do I do this to myself?
You'd hope so! New Zealand has been sending racers to ISRA ever since it first started. Guys like Chris Radisich and Dave Gick are legends of the sport, so there is certainly some pedigree there.
At the very least New Zealand now has a World class racing facility, which can only be good. From what I can tell, slot car racing is very much alive and well over there and this new track will strengthen an already healthy organisation.
Major Kudos to the guys who made it happen. And thanks to Zippity for the news.
^^^ Well said! Don't forget Gil & Paul.
Why do I do this to myself?
^^^ And well said to you too! That is always the danger when you name one (or more) people: where do you stop? Suffice it to say that there are many, many New Zealand racers who have raced at home and abroad with considerable success. And there are equally many who have made enormous contributions behind the scenes.
Whatever and whoever, I think this new track will prove the adage "If you build it, they will come."

Here in the US, we don't hear about these smaller NZ tracks or their race reports. It's nice to know they're out there. How about posting some photos & info on them here in the future?
