Expert Group 12 (Boxstock) Official Results

    1 - Erkle - 490 (New Record!)
    2 - Jim Swofford - 479+
    3 - Benny Justice - 474
    6 - Richard Curnutte - 472
    7 - Wendell Smith - 471
    8 - Monty Ohren - 401
    Reggie Coram - DQ
    Jeremy Kranes - DQ

There were a number of issues that came up during post race tech, resulting in several decisions to be made requiring interpretation of the rules.

Each was discussed, rules were consulted, protest and questions were raised, and it was decided to bring the make the determination by a decision of a committee.

Since all members of the USRA Ethics Committee were not present, additional USRA members were appointed by USRA Director Bill Skinner.

    The committee was comprised of:
Bill Skinner, Jeff Bechtel, Charlie 2Fast, Doug Bauer, Wendell Smith, & Paul Kassens.

The cars and issues being discussed were as follows:

Reggie - car was too light at post race tech.
Comments: Reggie had changed motors going into the last heat. The new motor had Kelly magnets, which were lighter then the Mura magnets in the other motor. Reggie simply forgot to weigh and add weight to the car after changing motors. There was no discussion or protest to this decision. Reggie's car was DQ'd.

Jeremy - there was a non-standard brace added to the back of the chassis. This was discussed briefly and agreed on by all involved, and Jeremy's car was DQ'd.

Monty & Wendell - Slick 7 Vampire chassis was plated. Submitted chassis was not plated. This was discussed and decided that the chassis were sold over the counter plated, and were the same part number and description as submitted. This was decided that the chassis were legal. Benny also ran an older Slick 7 Vampire that was not plated.

Swofford - Jim's endbell had been notched. This was discussed at length. The rules mention cutting or drilling as not being allowed, however there were explainations involving some of the evolution of the motor hardware and rules, and it was decided that the motor was allowed.

Erkle - His chassis was protested as being too long. Upon measurement it was found to be .004" too long. There no signs that the pillow blocks had ever been moved, and after discussion it was decided that the chassis was within a reasonable amount of manufacturing tollerance, and was not modified. The chassis was deemed legal and Erkle was declared the winner.

All decisions were made in favor of common sense and reasonable interpretation prevailing over nit-picking the letter of the rules.

The final results were announced and awards presented, with no further discussion.

It was a great race, and we all felt that it was important to resolve issues and move on, and not cloud up the great racing with controversy.
