A VERY exciting race! Especially between 3 fast youngsters - Jimmy, Colin & James!
James & Jimmy swapped leads throughtout the race, then Jimmy pulled a slight edge on James on the fast purple and black lanes. James headed to finish on purple & black, but his car slowed dramatically in purple. After changing braid, flushing the motor, and checking everything, James went to black. The car slowed again as Jimmy started pulling away from the field, and the rest started reeling in James.
James complained his braid was bad as it slowed around the donut, with Colin now pulling even. With a minute to go, I had to grab James' car and check the braid, and it was indeed burned. I fixed it quick as Colin drove by for 2nd. Now James was fast and began to reel Colin back in.... while Jimmy continued to pull away now. With seconds to go - Colin crashed, landing in front of James - and at a spot on the bridge where the marshal could not reach it, resulting in a track call. The quick track call and James having to stop, left Colin just barely ahead of James, and as the power went off - Colin was ahead of James by just a few feet!
Meanwhile - a couple of the "older" guys were catching the youngsters! Todd Radke and Bill Vanderziel were tied for 4th & 5th, and got within just 2 laps of the kids' battle for 2nd!
So it was Jimmy Ross - driving a near-perfect race, to win - and finally dethrone the local home track favorite James Loconto. Colin had also slipped by James in an impressive drive to 2nd, and James settled for a not-so-shabby 3rd. Todd Radke made an impressive come-back drive to finish a close 4th, just ahead of a very fast but tired Bill Vanderziel in 5th. A few more laps back was Thomas Burnside in 6th, 5 laps ahead of his dad, Henry Burnside in 6th, then Alex Molle who had problems, putting him in 8th.
Yet another very close and competative race - with the youngsters putting on a real show for everyone!
Concours: Alex Molle
