Flat Track Collection

Anybody have a picture of the mostly-flat track that was at Les Newman's Slot Car Raceway - Tampa Bay around 2004 to 2006?

It certainly earned the nickname "The Biotch By The Bay" but was a lot of fun to drive.

I think part of the inaugural AMSRA Nats was held on that track.

Mike,

I wonder why that is? That you have more votes then the other flat track designs.

Now, I have never raced on your track, nor at your facility. However from what I've read, it is a very interesting experience.

Taking a look at the photo below, I see so many things that draw my attention to your track.

BTW, what is the track height above the floor? From the photos, it would appear that a typical person can simply reach out to gather the car when they are turn marshaling rather then having to bend over to get the car. What, no knee pads necessary to turn marshal? Isn't that unique? Most of us 'more mature' racers can appreciate the thought that went into that portion of the design of your track.

I love the full view afforded to the racers from the driver's panel. You can see all parts of the track while driving. There are no hidden areas where a de-slotted car can hide only to be found when you are powering through that area only to hear this sickening 'thud'. If you run into another car during a race, it's your fault.

The track appears (since I've not yet raced on it, I can't be sure) to be a true 'driver's' track. While a motor is very important, handling and setup are probably a bit more so.

It also appears to have 'just the right amount' of "features" built into the design, not too many to be frustrating, not so few that the race is boring, but that right mix to keep a racer on their toes and provide an adequate amount of challenges during a race.

Yeah, maybe there is a reason that you have the most votes and that reason is not the fact that you earned each and every one of those votes!

Innovation is the key to success in today's marketplace. I think you have found that sweet spot. Good job!

One day I will make the trek to participate in one of the many fine racing programs at Chicagoland Raceway.

The track is 30" tall.(approx. table height)
Part of the reason was if it ever had to do double duty as a pit table
for a big wing car race on the King.
At that height it is extremely easy to marshall.
With no bending down or balancing involved, you can safely and easily
marshall 2 cars at once with both hands.

While I stressed visibility(note the clear walls in spots),
the square pole holding up the observation loft does create a small
blind spot.
It doesn't happen often because the blind spot is only about the size
of a car but about once a month a car will
hit another car hidden behind the pole.
