Tim,
Are you guys running FCR cars or scratch built? Either way the fact these FKs can push heavy HBs around for 4 hours is impressive. What gear ratios are common?
Well Tim glad that you did not have any motor failures, you guys are sure running fast?
Back to Ron H the Devil, you are right we are disqualify any way, why not run the PS-FK for testing purposes to see where we are going in the future.

What does it all mean?.........

They are all scratch built cars ---running around 185 grams! We managed to not only get the motor to last---but didn't have to change tires either because the car handled so well!! The gear ration is 10/50. Their a LOT of fun!! Check out Keith 's webpage --phanfare--for D3 hardbody cars.
Tim thanks for informing us that, glad to hear they are scratch builds.

A good question Nesta
I have tried both motors with different gear ratios from those suggested as we have a flat road course out here - not a punch bowl
I'm thinking that the JK Hawk Retro will probably be our pick for a replacement for the TSR F7 motor.
It appears to be the lessor evil of the two motors with less bits able to be removed/changed/swapped.
From reading this and the other Blog, I understand that a cheat will be able to tamper with any sealed motor

For now I think it will be the R/H and maybe we can add the PS FK later as a motor we can use also so Both in the End. Your Choice. as it should be
Jason
Nesta, give it a go and it's 2 grams lighter than a HR. What's to harm with all the testing going on?....

Rick
What do you gear them out there I was going to try 9/27 to start with our low power and go to 26.
Jason
Jason, they are very new for me too. Haven't had much experience with them. But what I hear the 8t is correct for them on 13.5. So good place to start, adjust crown. You guys run much lighter cars too? I don't look for them to be any more consistant than any other POS asian motor. The one plus is, you can change brushes and get more run time out of one, they have better brakes than an FK motor. Price is a wash. I will know more after the ROC race, if I can make it...................

I have several PS FK's and Hawks. If running the motor with the replacement brushes is not a problem in your Series. The PS FK is the way to go. Will by far out last the Hawk, has better braking that will not fade during racing. I have tried 7, 8 and 9's on my PS FK's. The 8 tooth has worked the best. The PS FK is a slightly faster motor than the Hawk. I have ran my fastest lap times with the PS FK in my Can Ams and Retro Coupes. We will be racing the PS FK in this area in 3 different Series. Penn Ohio in Coupes, Buckeye in their 7/68 class and Ohio Challenge Cup in the GTP class. The recommended gearing suggested by Pro Slot seems to be on the money with these motors. I hope this info helps. We have raced a few House races with the PS FK. Plus I am testing cars for OCC and Penn Ohio with that motor.

Thanks for sharing that, myself I hope that we will adoped the PS-FK motors in the near future!
What is your take on gearing a Hawk for a King track?
Nesta

I gear the Hawk with a 9 pinion and depending on the motor heat and braking. Crown will vary from 27 to 29. We run on American Kings in this area. So having brakes is critical for me when racing with a Hawk on the American King.

I would not bet on the Pro Slot FK, because of the changeable brushes and springs.... We might see the switch to the Retro Hawk next February, but I would bet my nickel at this time that the Pro Slot will not be the motor chosen...
