Kinda poking around the forum for bread drums and started reading some of the posts and this one had some people in it that i know so i started reading. the comment "the skill set is too low" stuck out a bit cause there are a lot of ways to fix this. these guys helped me by showing me how to set a car up in pretty great detail. I'm sure everyone wants to keep their secrets and you should! BUT they taught me basics. It was then left up to me to fine tune the car to my finger. Flat track racing was a scary first step into a big pool but me thinking i was way over my head was able to place in the top 3 in 3 out of 4 classes in over all points. I like the challenge but not everyone likes to get beaten and fight back.
my thought on it is we need to get a base of people racing with us weekly in a simplified version of each of the classes. we need to readily share some knowledge with new guys and not just pound them in the head and expect them to stick around. The spec LMP was awesome this passed year in the garden state isra series on the anaconda at least it helped me with setting up my g10 and b-prod. using the same car with a sealed motor and a horrid handling body helped me focus on driving and chassis setup and gear ratio. But again they were there TEACHING me. not just beating me in the head.
im willing to take my knowledge and sit down with anyone that doesn't get how to do the "big classes" and wash away the scary parts of getting into the big pool. me and one of my many mentors are planning to do just that at our track with some of the guys that show interest in it but always say "i can't do that" without cars we have NOTHING. i LOVE this hobby and want it to stop dwindling and start growing again.
