    Help choosing the right motor...

I have been researching this for hours but am at a standstill. I'm looking for an inexpensive motor with 70 turns or more of 30 gauge wire. I think the 16D fits this but am not sure. I'm looking for a suitable motor for 1:24th scale RC rock crawlers. 80 turns would be even better. Can anyone help me sift through the overwhelming amount of info? The normal gear pitch is 0.3m and the normal pinion is on a 1.5mm shaft. The normal ratio is 10 tooth pinion and a 54 tooth spur. I will need to convert these to 64 pitch (I guess) and replace both, as I can't find 2mm bore pinions with 0.3modulus gears. Thanks in advance. Here's an image of one of the crawlers.

For a rock crawler, I'm guessing rpm is less important than torque, so how about something like this:

    http://www.professormotor.com/product-p/nsr3023.htm

It has a 2mm shaft unfortunately, but 350gcm of torque.

Of course, these are designed to work best at 12Volts, what do your RC crawlers use?

Sounds like a Parma 501 would fit the bill. At $12.50 not much of a risk. You will want to swap out the stock brushes and springs.

Hi Ingram, What's a king? Guide flag?

Hi Sam, I am ready to try one of the 501's.

Does anyone have any info on gears. I can use a different pitch if I can get a spur to match. The spur would have to be .68" in diameter. Right now the only option is to buy a pinion for a 1.5mm shaft and drill it out to 2mm. The existing gears are 0.3 modulus.

    Thanks!

    Here's another of my crawlers.

Ten or more years ago an 1/18th scale RC car used a similar motor with some success. All slot car motors use the 2mm as a standard - only some of the homeset 1/32 F-1 cars use the tiny 1.5mm shaft (plastic 50 pitch) and the superfast euro motors with solder-on 6 and 7 tooth High rpm motors. Most common among RC should be the very common 48 pitch slot gears. Rc has always confused me since they fail to rate motors the way that slot cars have for over 20 years.

16d of the modern era IS 70 turns of 30 ga wire . Parma also makes a homeset that has less amp draw as their 'rental' motor.

never heard of your gear classification...in america we gauge pitch by teeth per circumfural inch. Most metric gears in european slotcars are 50. American 1/8" axle commonly use 48 pitch; with 2mm and 3/32" axle sizes using 64, 72, or 80 pitch.

A picture of your old motor would be helpful to guage space. The 'D' can is rather large compared to other newer motors available.
