What is the current thought on 24th Euro motors? Smaller wire and lots of turns vs bigger wire and fewer turns? Smaller setups vs bigger setups?

the current trend seems to be leaning towards hotter winds over the past year. Keep in mind this is going to be especially true on certain tracks (longer less technical tracks for example). A very common setup is a Camen 8 segment smallblock style setup with a Valiko 19T25 Arm, Also popular are the PK hot winds, 84.5 and 94.5, for something a little more drivable a 24.5 seems to have great power with less raw torque to get yourself into trouble. The softer winds seem to me to have a much better power curve. A small contingent of eurosport racers have been experimenting with the smaller Koford setups as well, PG won this years nats with one, but they certainly are not the majority used setups. All that being said my favorite motor of all time is still a Camen single segment magnet smallblock 330x400 with a Valiko 22T25 .480 armature. It doesn't have rip your face off speed but it drives itself with the right chassis setup.

The Smallblock setup was developed I believe by Lee Gilbert of Speedshop infamy, its a .630 x .400 x .600 long sized setup, opposed to reusing a wing car open motor (a "Big Block" setup which was done in the developmental years of Eurosport up until only a few short years ago.
for both PK and Valiko arms I am the best source that I know of in the USA if your local raceway does not have them and will not get them for you.

I use a Dub built motor, it is a 7-6 at .250 l .470 diameter. it is 17 turns of 26 wire. fast motors and very light weight. we have up to 28 segments in a typical motor and the super dub has 34. Koford arms. partially because he is the only one to make the arms we wanted, and because they are very good arms also, saw coms don't need capped

Armature and set up combinations need to work in harmony. My choice for 24th Euro is 19/25, then either 22/25 or 23/25. It is very rare I use anything else. Diameter wise I start at 480 and go up to 485 and 490 depending on track and track power. I use Camen set ups (6's for 24) always 300 long, and no longer in the set up or magnets than it needs to be. Any bigger than needed is just extra weight. The Camen set ups offer good power, good build quality, not too heavy, and at a reasonable price
