Its been running a little flat the last time when compared to a fresh one, and I had to drive it with the sensitivity cranked to full. I guess changing the brushes without a comm true isn't very healthy for a motor? So I decided to retire it and strip down for a peek.
Very dirty inside, lots of brush dust. I have never cleaned it or done anything other than a quick lube. The motor bushes are fine with no sloppiness on the arm shaft. I expect with a comm true and a break in it'll be good as new but with the seal cracked I can't run it legally at the club so if I do this it'll just be for interest's sake.
Oh and it's done a shade over 9000laps, I was going to take it to ten thousand but couldn't face another marathon at the track...

Oil got on it.
I also can see why they throw wires.
Gotboostedvr6 yes its very possible oil was on it, it was quite dirty inside
I have tried everything I have to clean the black off the comm but nothing seems to shift it.
What weakness do you see why they would throw wires? I haven't heard of this as a weakness or common fault with this motor

The wires are super sloppy.
Certainly not common for these motors to 'throw wires' in RETRO competition...
Was going to go bushwalking this weekend but the weather has been crap so instead gave all the parts a good clean and tickled up the com, re-assembled and put back in the chassis, straightened/flattened the chassis and put some new rubber on....good as new. I changed the gearing to the same as another PS4002FK powered JKX25 car that runs very fast (4.404) and got within 0.08sec of that mounted in a C11.....so probably no loss of power at all.
Thats not bad for the life its had...

How did you "tickle up the comm"??
What chassis are you running and what rubber/hub combination?
What gear ratio are you running up there in Auckland?
Inquiring minds need to know
That's a bunch of expensive questions Zippity send cash first

I will be installing a "hot" PS4002FK motor into a CTF chassis tomorrow morning and will then take it down to the raceway for some testing.
Which rubber compound are you finding works best?
PS Goldust or Big Foot brushes in these motors are illegal for NZSCRA events

Just one question....why? Has no-one submitted a remit to change?

I get kicked back every time I suggest a change
Some crap about keeping the costs down, beginner's class, etc etc BS etc.........
