This thing is better than a Deathstar (or Falcons 1 through 7) but...

1. the magnets come loose and hit the stack
2. the can bushing is often loose
3.the endbell bushing spins
4. the armature spacing is usually bad
5. the endbell is supposed to be glued in, but it's not
6. the tabs may be bent a tad but they are most definitely not "crimped"
7. the brush hoods are always misaligned and frequently bent or twisted
8. the armature is of poor quality and the comm is not tied down or in any way secured
9. the "cog" effect is so strong that it makes a precise gear mesh is VERY hard to achieve
10. the brushes (WIDER than BF or GD) give a lot of overlap so overheating is a frequent occurrence and the springs collapse easily

All in all this motor is (IMO) a step up the "crap" list, but (also IMO) nobody should be singing its praises. Its only real advantage is the belief that it's tamper-proof.

I used to like this motor when I first started racing it until I found out about 5 & 6.
I thought the endbell was supposed to be glued in place so it could not be removed.

Its too easy for people to cheat them up and replace the seal. Might as well run deathstars.

I'm running Hawk Retro Motors now. Will see how long that lasts.

I've only taken apart a 2 or 3.

One, when it was submitted to the IRRA.

That one took a medium effort to push off of the can.

The other(s), I found to be very easy to push off of the can.

It's seems as they are lightly tacked, using Krazy glue.

That said, I've never seen it as a real security feature, regardless.

It would only work as one, if it was impossible to remove the endbell, without damaging it.

And still, only then if the endbell on those motors was unique and not available as a replacement item, or off another motor.

Anyone willing to cheat would just break/cut it off the motor and replace it with a different, identical looking one.

..that I really do like the FK. Makes the car handle well, decent speed and good torque. It is what it is; considering the source and the cost. Just have an ole school approach/American made mind set that when you bought an RTR, back in the day, you were really buying parts and it was up to you do go completely through the car and essentially rebuild it, before racing it. Can't do that with the FK. While sealed the motor really is open. I'm less a fan of a disposable motor. I have noticed the first few runs of the FKs from a couple of years ago seemed to be constructed using better materials; for example the cans had much better integrity. The first couple I purchased made it through some 20-25 races each before giving up. Have to get used to keeping your fingers off the seals. Just seems harder and harder to get a decent one, and have to be lucky not pull it from the package to find a magnet loose and banging the arm. Darn end bell bushing issue could be fixed if the end bell boss was simply - thicker. BTW - that can bushing is not an oil light, and the magnet epoxy is more like low temp silicone caulking. Oh well. Waiting for the day when Goatboy or JDS offer a can alignment tool for these bad boys.

I have found snap ring pliers work very well for this situation. If you don't already have a pair, Harbor Freight has a decent cheapo pair for about $4.

Dave- I picked up a set of those snap ring pliers and they seem to do the trick.
I pushed the tabs back with them and put a drop of superglue on the magnets.
Motor sounds good now on power supply.
I'll try it at the track tomorrow night.

Would just be a better alternative motor than the JK Retro Hawk.

Sealed motors are easy, just buy 100 at a time works for me.

Or go handout....and make things worse.

People complain the most about classes they have little control over when it comes to sealed motors etc, as per the hand out motor rule in USA ? i believe you can still purchase as many as you like after the handout?

Anyone can still spend up large to find that one that will give some advantage, after all don't we all want to win?

Or at-least increase those odds, then other class where much can be done to a motor little is said.

With IRRA Retro, some raceways will go 2 max.

I'll go up to 4 if I have enough.

That's about as much as anyone has time to put pinions on and test.

I have been looking at the ProSlot gear charts.
Looks like I'm running rollout around 3.60-3.75 most of the time.
Champion T-Flex cars, weight around 102 grams.
They run warm and I put them on fan between heats but no failures other than 1 with a loose magnet.
