And nothing is gained by thinking we know everything. I was positive I knew what would be the differences between the originally built 0.039” wire framed 1237-Cc2 and its yet to be built 0.032” wire framed 1237-Cc3 sister chassis, and that I wouldn’t have to build it because of this presaged wisdom… In other words, the folly of expediency. And even if I was correct, there would still be that gap in the evolution of these designs and builds that would allow some heretics and naysayers to proclaim “magic” or accuse “witchcraft”…

So, as previously warned, I built the 0.032” wire framed version, the 1237-Cc3.

Like the -Cc2, the -Cc3 was easy to build. Not surprisingly, it looks largely identical also:

There are the typical structural design/build alterations incorporated into the 1237-Cc3 that are required when using 0.032” wire as opposed to 0.039” wire, for example: Center main rail is 9x wide 0.032” wire (-Cc2 was 8x wide 0.039” wire); Buttress rails are each 4x wide 0.032” wire (-Cc2 was 3x wide 0.039”); “Side pans” are each two sets of 3x wide 0.032” (-Cc2 was 2x wide 0.039”).

Early estimations indicated this chassis would yield a car about 6 grams lighter than its predecessor, putting it under the dreaded 100-g number thing. In actuality the 1237-Cc3 RTR came out at 95.2 grams, 7 grams less than the 1237-Cc2. Regardless of this, any initial test runs for comparison purposes between the 1237-Cc2 and the 1237-Cc3 to observe the differences in chassis dynamics caused by the difference in construction material (0.039” wire vs 0.032” wire) had to be made using the chassis as-built with no consideration of altering the mass of the 1237-Cc3. Once that was completed I could always add the additional mass for the purpose of testing its applicability.

However, it should be noted, even before the 1237-Cc3 got put on a track, after some mandatory lengthy poking and probing on the test block, and being pleased with what I saw, I decided to start building the 1238-Cc3… Why not? I can test them at the same time, and…

I’ve got no control…
