Why Brushless Motors will NEVER succeed in the USA

The profit margins are too LOW on brushless motors.

Due to their cheapness of sale, brushless motors are NOT economical for sale.

Whereas most Commercial Raceways and Distributors can crank up their profits on brushed motors and armatures by 100 to 300 per cent, they CANNOT do the same with the cheaper $5 to $10 brushless motors.

A suitable armature for the now almost defunct Pro Slot 4002FK motor costs US 90cents per armature for an order of 500 or more. These armatures come with larger commutators, tied wires, epoxied, balanced and tagged and are from the same Chinese manufacturers who make today’s 4002 motors.

A 4002 motor costs $3 to $4 US to make.

In addition, so many USA racers hold thousands of dollars in inventory with their fast Strap motors.

Open G7 Wing Car races consist of eight 5 minute Heats with 5 minute intermissions for lane changes, where complete motors or armatures can be swapped/installed.

Imagine racing one $5 - $10 brushless motor for the duration of one race!!

Seems the tail is wagging the dog for a long time. Do raceways stay open because of a markup on parts or racers using up consumables? Without racers nothing gets sold.

Slot car racing in the USA is unlike that any where else in the world. There are very few commercial raceways in existence outside of the USA.

Most are Club's or privately owned raceways, which DO NOT rely on profits from the sale of items to survive.

    Rob,

    So great to see

Are you going to allow brushless motors to race at your raceway?

Has anyone tried running a brushless car yet?

Nothing yet. I think things need a little time so they are stable. We are taking a stable class structure aproach instead of the new widget every week. Guys seem to be liking it.
